ill give it a try now that i have spent an evening and a night installing the brand new guaranteed HDD...
but if they let anybody with an cgtalk award participate...well at least... we can still look at it in awe...:)

I hate being such a noobie. I need one of those as my PC is only half built. I have a great idea for it aswell, if only i had the skill to bring it to life.

i am noobie too, but i am gonna try to join it...reason is, the higher my goal, even if i dont achieve it, i will have succeeded at making something higher than normal. :)

So, i found the perfect alien place for that machine to rest in... my home. (but i strongly believe that theres like 200000 people out there disagreeing....:)).

By 3d what do they mean? Can I have a scene made in 3d/Maya but brushed up in photoshop??????

Obviously the arguement could be put forward that the promise of winning 1st, 2nd or 3rd place is payment in itself. However, with 253 current entrants at the time of writing that's 250 people who, no matter what - will recieve nothing. And yet that's 250 peices of artwork that can be used in any manner CGNetworks/Alienware choose.

heh so i wasnt the only one who tought it...:) it will be fun at the end when most ppl with the best works are playing cat and mice with the ones who are already posted like: "huumm can i win that? or should i keep the rights over mines?":D

it'll have to be alien landscape as you can't have life (it's in the rules).

It's a good start. Maybe too earthy like atm but I'm sure it'll change to more alien type thing later. I like the cocoon idea...

What you need is more plant life to give it a more alien look... unless that is not allowed either. Then this seems like an extremely difficult contest.

I think instead of the mountains being rock i might make them living tissue or atleast was living and is now dead and decaying.

They seem to be having some trouble though regarding the rights of the images and all.
Some guys don´t seem to be pleased with the rules.

I don't care about that, if it's in the rules and you don't like it then don't enter the challenge. Nobody is making them enter.
