What can i say except that it's brilliant. I don't know what the guys at Dyson did to deserve such a cool 3D version of their vacuum ;)

Keep up the good work

magicsy 25-11-2005 04:00 PM

lol thanks Cris, and everyone one else.
been updating my plastic with a small bumpmap on it looks better and added a few more logos post up a render soonish to show ya.

BMS 25-11-2005 07:39 PM

Looking really good so far. Keep it up. Actually its coming along so good that I'm thinking of buying one . . the real one :)

magicsy 25-11-2005 08:26 PM

Lmao!
Cheers guys i love good complements ;)

alienscience 26-11-2005 12:13 AM

Might I ask for a high resolutinon pic? Just to look at where you smoothed everything.

magicsy 26-11-2005 07:57 AM

hi what do u mean by a high res pic?
wireframe would show where i smoothed.
or do u mean a pic of the actual model.
just let me know and ill sort it for ya.

mayafreak3 26-11-2005 08:42 PM

Nice Going on the New Model Magicsy. On the square/jagged edge.. This is just a guess, but it could be a setting in mental ray. I'd try the default production quality settings.. then add final gather. You might also check to see the filter type.. I'd use Gaussian, its the slowest but the best. Hope this helps...

Keep up the good work!! :)

alienscience 27-11-2005 09:44 PM

Well, I was asking for the high res pic for the jagged reason thing. Sometimes that happens when you subdivide a lot and then smooth. I think the term is like 'loose vertices' or something along those lines. So if you can, check the poly count and stuff for it and see how high it is.

MattTheMan 27-11-2005 09:45 PM

How much anti-aliasing do you have on it?

magicsy 29-11-2005 06:09 PM

1 Attachment(s)
this render has min 2, max 4 anti aliasing
also 1024 final gather rays.
so yea i upped them all from the last render.
used hdri and a light with zero intensity for the final gather.
also lowered the irradiance in mental ray. been reading some good tuts ;)
the final piece wont be so reflective and the grey plastic will be lighter in colour.
starting to make a simple wall for the scene (just something to make it more realistic. :D
thanks for all ure comments and help so far guys as u can see from my joined date i aint been using maya for long im really proud of my work so far and its thanks to u and this site.
So heres one for u all:beer:
Cheers
Simon.
p.s sorry if the image is large the file is small. ;)

metallicjet66 29-11-2005 06:48 PM

hey man, render is looking nice!!, hmm, dont you think the reflections are a bit too much? how bout cranking them down just a bit

t1ck135 29-11-2005 07:37 PM

nice progress man, looks like you're learning loads about rendering! :)

yea i said in the finished version the plastic is gonna be lighter and the reflection needs turning way down ;)
didnt realise till it was done ;)
thanks for the comments :)

metallicjet66 29-11-2005 08:53 PM

hmm, just a suggestion, but um... ya, you know that clear garbage filter there, i think you should fill it up with garbage or tiny pieces of paper or something, to make it more realistic

THX1138 30-11-2005 09:30 AM

I agree that the reflection needs to be turned down a bit. You could also blur those reflections somewhat aswell.

Over all the vaccume is really looking sweet!

magicsy 30-11-2005 05:01 PM

:O tiny pieces of litter.
ill give it a go yeah and ill take the coments into my next render tonight thanks for tha input!

jsprogg 30-11-2005 05:04 PM

hey you have a month to make some litter and stuff :)

a few scratches might not go amiss either if you have time.

mtmckinley 30-11-2005 05:14 PM

coming together nicely!

magicsy 30-11-2005 08:43 PM

thanks mike!.
yea im gonna try give it a more worn out feel and the litter etc gives me more to do in the last month,
one question the last render i did, wasnt all of the model. but its nice and close which i like. may sound noobie but is the a way i can have it this close and show the whole model?

here's the kinda scene ill be using in my final(only rough here) still need to sort the dam colour out its still too dark and reflections are a tad high.i think a small quick scene adds to realism quite well.

jsprogg 30-11-2005 11:00 PM

The wall shouldn't be reflective ..emulsion is a matt or silk finish,i would suggest changing the material to a lambert.

THX1138 01-12-2005 03:46 AM

I agree. I also sugggest putting carpet on the floor.

clopper 01-12-2005 11:33 AM

the plug socket needs addressing too, at that angle the underside would not be visible.

magicsy 01-12-2005 11:54 AM

hi, yeah its not visable i think its the dam relection showing the wood floor.
looks like wot u say though yeah.

magicsy 01-12-2005 12:25 PM

heres my latest version might add a bit more detail to the scene now onto the litter.

jsprogg 01-12-2005 01:55 PM

Getting better..i thing the plastic on the vacuum needs to be slightly less reflective.
Also the socket outlets look off to me and I would notice that because I was an electrician for 20years,you need to check your distances between the pins and the earth pin is actually oblong like you have it butneeds to be rotated 90 degrees so the the long sige is vertical.

hope this helps a little.

JDigital 01-12-2005 09:16 PM

That looks great!

Where have you been reading tutorials on rendering? I need to read up too!

Great job!

THX1138 01-12-2005 11:48 PM

Looking awsome !!:attn: What kind of light are you using with your global Illumination?

mayafreak3 02-12-2005 10:52 PM

You are getting great shadows and lighting in this last pic. Impressive.

Mayafreak3

magicsy 03-12-2005 08:48 AM

woah thanks for the great comments!!!
sorry i havnt replied i seems to be struggling connecting to the net at the moment.may need to reinstall windows :O which means saving all my work to disk DAM!
as for the tutorials heres one for final gather.
Jozvex.com
the scene is using a hdri and final gather and one point light behind the dyson.
i got the look by playing with the mental ray settings for each peice of geometry reflction blur and especially irradiance to stop the thing going too white!
also i made the door have glass so light would come through and slightly light that corner part up. from the hdri.
in photoshop i added a picture of a kitchen into a layer so it looks like theres something beyond the door through the glass.

heres something im modeling and texturing for my scene i know we dont need a scene... but i thought i had a bit of time, plus it helps me learn some more modeling tecniques n stuff!

magicsy 04-12-2005 04:48 PM

ill be posting my near finished render in a hour or so ;)
So be waiting in anticipation...
hehe.

magicsy 04-12-2005 07:22 PM

:angery:
turned out bad sorry guys.

THX1138 05-12-2005 12:18 PM

It would be intresting to see a pic of the scene file from that last render if you would be so kind.

magicsy 05-12-2005 12:33 PM

sure np ;)

magicsy 05-12-2005 01:09 PM

here it is, i did use global illum.
2 point lights set a diff intensities and my fav hdri which i positioned to come through the door also i dont remember but i broke some of the light links to certain things.

cris007 05-12-2005 01:46 PM

Wow... your hdri rendering is really impressive. Can't wait to see a new rendering with the dyson in your new scene.

THX1138 05-12-2005 02:17 PM

Impressive. :) In that last render, you have GI artifacts showing up on the wall by your door. Increase your GI radius and accuracy and the atrifacts will smooth out.

Did you turn the point light behind the Dyson off or something?

magicsy 05-12-2005 03:10 PM

yea i gave it zero intensity.
and thanks bout the artifacts yeah i having been reading bout that problem.

magicsy 06-12-2005 07:14 PM

Heres my latest scene dont seem to be able to get a better render as yet.
this is from a better angle i think. i messed the flooor up so i know that needs sorting.
please post some comments on how i could make this better.
cheers
simon.
