Here's a guy I modelled last couple of days.

vladimirjp 18-10-2006 10:17 PM

this looks nice. nice design.
maybe you can work on the eyes a little more.

arran 19-10-2006 02:12 AM

yeah - definitely agree about the eyes and also the forehead is looking a bit too sloped - I think you need more of a ridge above the brows.

Good work though mate!

Thanks for the crits, guys!

Did some work on the forehead and the eyes, think it looks a bit better now.

arran 19-10-2006 07:15 AM

yeah - definitely looking a lot better. :)

Started to play around with a bump map. It's not finished so I know it isn't perfect...just showing some progress.

NeoStrider 06-11-2006 05:37 PM

well i guess from a personal preference i can understand the wrinkles around the horns, the eyes, and the forehead area, but on the cheeks and nose it looks a little odd... again just a personal opinion. maybe it just looks too pronounced *shrug*

Hey nice model. Just did a quick liquify in PS just to show how you could possibly improve the geometry a bit to make him look a little more natural. Dont think that would have any effects on the bump map either so your safe to mess around;) In any case thats my 2 cents

hehe nice going with liquify, I like it. I'll see If I bother do change the geometry, you'll have to stop sometimes otherwise you'll never finish.

Anyway, here's a more realistic render with the same bump map.

Minstrel 15-11-2006 12:12 PM

Space Goat, I am amazed at what you did with PS...jesus christ!

Can you go to my thread and do that :) (the title is "warrior")

Just some minor changes to the bump. And added eye textures.

Just a solid color now. Gonna start with the color map next.

Textured the horns... and some minor small adjustments to the color- and bump map.

erictacti 17-11-2006 03:11 AM

Pretty sweet. But, I'd say he has a 'leather' like look to him. Why not try a reddish skin? Seems cliche, I know, but I think it'd look awesome with his skin texture.

gster123 17-11-2006 08:44 AM

Hey DJ good going on the textures so far, really coming along.

Should have posted this earlier but I think that the ears should blend into the head more as the top appears to stick out a bit.

DJbLAZER 17-11-2006 02:07 PM

I did the ears on that on purpose actually so they stand out more than "normal".

I will try to see how he looks with a more red skin texture, might be cooler.

The thing I dislike the most is that he looks almost like he's made of stone. Some nice SSS would be nice to have... but that might have to wait for another time when I have the knowledge/computer power/time.

Another render, same as before only bigger.

erictacti 17-11-2006 04:42 PM

Another idea that may look cool is to add a slight point to his ears. That way, since you wanted them to be noticeable, it'll give them a little bit more of a way to stand out. And, you're right, he does kinda have that 'stone' look. But, since you obviously put so much time and effort into the texturing, why not use that to your advantage? Try and give him more of a stone/granite color, and you've got 1 bad @$$ gargoyle come to life!

Just an idea...

arran 17-11-2006 05:04 PM

Nice work DJ - I think this is looking pretty cool. I Like the yellow light that you've thrown on it. it might be cool to push it in the stone gargoyle direction as well though i kind of like the reddish skin.

I think what is bothering me about the ears is the top ridge - I think I might fatten up the width a bit at the top.

thanks for the input guys, I think I might try to give the ears a pointy look. But I'm more into a fleshy feeling than stone, so no statue this time :)

Here's another render with the standard devil red.

erictacti 17-11-2006 06:00 PM

Yeah, that looks pretty awesome. Have you tried a deeper red? That might look cool, too. I was thinking the horns would look sweet if they were a shiny black, but then I think it'd be hard to see all of the texture work you put into them. In any case, it's looking really cool! And, I think the pointy ears will add so much more to it, IMHO.

DJbLAZER 17-11-2006 06:04 PM

I actually think the horns doesn't match the red skin, so I'll try black horns. Also the white in the eyes looks a bit out of place.. so I'll try red there too.

Here's an update with black horns and reddish eyes. Haven't touched the ears yet.

gster123 17-11-2006 07:33 PM

IMO I reckon that you should try to keep some human bits to the eyes, just to give the hybrid/human thing to it, maybe very vainey?

DJbLAZER 17-11-2006 08:31 PM

good thinking... I'll try some different ones... a lot of veins is a good idea.

erictacti 17-11-2006 10:46 PM

Whoa, it's looking pretty damn sweet! It was good thinking to make the horns black, definitely IMHO. I was wrong, the texture still shows, and it actually looks better. It's really coming together now!

Hey nice work:)

Did just another quick PS thing to give ideas if you want em. Hope you don't mind this. cheers

DJbLAZER 18-11-2006 06:54 AM

hehe... very cool... I like the eyes. However I rather keep the face in a neutral state, so that it's easy to rig it later if I want to.
