Landscape

Working on a Landscape, its the first one I have ever done, so far I have kind of the basic lay out that I want
|
Hi Ozgalis
I see you have some thing that looks like a river bed are you going to use fluids for that? Could you show a wire frame shot..........dave |

im not sure how im going to do it yet, I would like to use fluids and it would be a perfect chance for me to familiarize my self with them. It really depends on how long it takes me to texture the building stairs and gravestones I plan on putting in.
Here is a wire |

and a close up of building/stair..still need to work on getting the land to wrap more smoothly with the stairs

Hi Ozgalis
I think you are going to need a tilable texture for most of the area but how do you change say from a grass area to say a muddy area?............look farward to your updates.....dave Edit: I dont think I have seen any tutorial for stuff like this? |
Yea im not sure how im doing it yet, learning as I go..laying out my UVs for the building and stairs right now.
|
Looks like an interesting and challenging project. I think you have a nice start so far. Transitioning from the grass area to the muddy area will be tricky. You can do it Maya using the paint tools and layered textures but it's kinda complicated. It would probably be easier for you to export the uv's into photoshop or gimp and create the transition there. I look forward to seeing your progress.

For the landscape im going for more of a dead looking enviorment, i want to put a graveyard in and try making it look creepy. Working on mapping my buildings and stairs now.

Hi Ozgalis
looking good how did you texture the ground..........dave |

Just added some fog to my scene, working on getting the fog on the stream/river to look more fog like and just finished texturing the roof of my building.

Hi Ozgalis
Try putting a background on it that should start pulling it together............dave |

Here is one with a overcast background, still plan on doing more with it but wanted to see what it looked like since you said something dave.

So my computer crashed and I lost everything, here is what I have done so far of my redo...going with a new look just because I want to do something new since I lost everything.
|
Dang, sorry to hear that. You sound like your in good spirits about it though. At least you weren't too far into the project when it crashed. The new redo looks promising so far.

last one, the water looks kind of funky wanting to work on that
|
Seems like you're using a spotlight and I think its dampening the scale of the scene, right now it looks like someone is shining one of those keychain flash lights on a miniature set, perhaps you could try a directional light. Ok I'm done being nosey
|
Oh sweet deal I will have to try that out when I get back to town Tuesday....I will post an update then also
|
How are you creating the river stream?
|
I used 3 planes with different transparency and found a water texture from cgtextures.com that I used. I will post a screen shot of the hypershade tomorrow when I have access to Maya.

here is a screen grab of the hypershade for the water, its the same for all 3 layers of the water, just different transparency's.

And I took your advice GecT and changed the lights here is what it looks like now.
|
The choice of light type makes it look better but it doesn't have a mood, its dark but it doesn't look like night, you know. The lighting has no temperature so to speak. Apart from that, I think the bump is too brash and paint FX trees would be more believable. Keep at it.
|
Will keep updating when ever I have a chance to, my classes end next Friday but I only have 3 days off before my next term starts so I wont be doing to much with this project at the moment.
Will keep your advice in mind though, as soon as I have some free time I will see what I can do. |
I agree with GecT about the lighting and the trees. Also, what about using fur for the grass? Might make it more believeable, and you can paint baldness maps on it, along with color maps.
|
will do, i actually left my hdd at school so I am picking it up on Friday, will post an update as soon as I get a chance to learn the paint tool
