Nov/Dec - noob - petrol
As my employer went into liquidation yesterday afternoon, I might have enough time to complete this task. :headbang:
I've been following the progress of most people here for a while, I think I'm going to have to find a subject fairly quickly. I've had a couple of ideas so far but none that I would consider interesting enough. I'll have to do a little searching around the house as I really want to be able to study the object well. PS. anyone have a job available for a graphics designer :( |
damn, sorry to hear about the job. good luck on your future employment as well as your entry!

Thanks Mike.
Ok, well I'm one of these people who irons their shirt every morning for work (or used to anyway), I know that the iron has lots of dials, buttons, contours, holes, materials and decals - I figure this might look quite cool when it's done. I'll get some photo's done of it later today, hopefully you dont all think it's boring :) [Edit: Hold that thought.... just seen my brothers swiss army knife...] [Edit Edit: Ok knife it is.... see below] |

Please forgive the pictures, the light was awful so I'm doing some proper ones tomorrow. The knife is really not that old, but my brother does a lot of manual work so I guess its just 'well used', but I really like all the distressed surfaces. The blades look particularly nicely scratched and stuff, I'll show you in the next pictures.

good luck :)
it'd be nice to see it modelled with some of the more complicated tools out |
Of course, all tools will be modelled :) I hope to show the model at the end with a variety of pictures showing multiple angles with different combinations of tools out, much the way they do in some promo shots for penknives.
Hope to get started on this project later tonight. |

Ok took more pictures, didnt get the quality I wanted (been waiting for good light but there is none, and i have no equipment :headbang:) I did get some closeups though which should help with texturing. Here's a few ref pics, they are 5 megapixel tho so you wont see much in a gif.

Nice Choice, and in the future a challenge to texture with layered shaders n stuff.
Good Luck. |
good start
