modeling with curves

1 Attachment(s)
I am trying to model some geometry but cannot work out how to snap a poly to a curve. I have not yet tried modelling with curves but have heard it can be a usefull tool. If anyone could let me know how to snap a polys vertex to a curve it would be much appreciated. Also is there any way to use the Surfaces / Planar option on a curve if it is not flat.

Cheers Leon

you can't perform a planar on a curve that's not flat... cause all planar does is create a plane... a two-dimensional surface. if you attempt a planar on a three-dimensional curve it'll fail (or actually maya will perform it, but you can't see the result unless you flatten the curve).

as far as snapping a poly to a curve, have you tried holding c (snap to curve)? you might be able to do it with single vertices...

Only seems to snap the whole poly and not singles verts. I'll have a mess around with it tommorow.
Thanks for the help.

i thought to snap a vertice you held down 'V', might be confused with something else

I'm not quite sure why you would want to snap and entier poly to a curve but there could be some use i'm sure, though the usualy modeling method is to snap the Verts to the curve. to do that you need to hold the "C" key. then cut the edges into the mesh once its finished.

I find its a little harder to snap the points to the curve after the shape has been completed, it might be an error or something on my end but I usualy try to make the shape rite the first time rather than forcing the edges to cooperate after the fact.

Make sure that you set up the object so its modeling with Quads. you can always reduce later.
