Battle Request!!
To: Anyone who wants to accept

Topic: realistic a setting (room, jungle...whatever your mind sees...keep it pg though pls and ty)...could be a fantasy setting but realistic character model and texturing. The setting must be well lit. The emphasis is both the character and the setting...not just the character. Setting must be modelled by you.

Modeling Type: polys, nurbs, subd...whatever...but from scratch with plenty of progress screenshots. Cloth and hair tools are allowed.

Textures: anything

Time Limit: was thinking 1 month

MattTheMan 29-11-2005 08:47 PM

Battle Request
To a middle (non noob non awesome dude) skill Maya person...

Game Model

Tops 6000 TRIS heavy, I know, but acceptable for hl2 or halo2 when it comes out for comp or some other high end game

textures 512x512 for head
1024x1024 for body
256x256 for each additional item (weapon... ETC)

normal or bump map

Model: polys. DUH

Lighting: whatever would be game acceptable, I guess up to 1024 res shadows, 512 if your edgy

would start saturday, lasting 2 weeks if I get a reply till then

Environment if you have time, or some basic prop. Ground texture should not be higher then a 512x512 repeating texture

Other props can also have 512x512 for big objects, 256x256 for small ones.

Thats all folks! W8ing for a rEsPoNcE fo shurizzle! Seeizle yOu LaTeR!

Joopson 29-11-2005 11:04 PM

lol, ill take it, maybe you will work on this challenge;)

MattTheMan 30-11-2005 08:56 PM

MattTheMan 30-11-2005 10:27 PM

Joopson 30-11-2005 11:35 PM

yes, but you didnt model it, its just a plane with an alpha channel:headbang:

MattTheMan 01-12-2005 08:37 PM

Subject: Favorite Candy

Anyone up to it?

magicsy 27-12-2005 04:28 PM

YO Joopson i will challenge you pal :)

magicsy 27-12-2005 04:29 PM

so i have to wait 2 weeks??? to start......

MattTheMan 27-12-2005 04:57 PM

Battle Request
TO: a maya user of intermediate skill

Subject: Architectural/ Room design... etc.

Goal: To create a photorealistic interior scene that looks like the awesome VRay renders those Maxers do. But it has to be done all inside Mental Ray

Time Limit: 4 Weeks (countdown starts when the battle thread is created and the opposer replies)

Requirements: You have to do all of the modeling and texturing on your own. No downloading objects and using them. AND NO CONVERSION TO 3DS MAX TO RENDER!!!!!!!!!! THAT WOULD BE CHEATING!!!! The whole point is to acheive that effect with Mental Ray in Maya.

Limits: Hey, if your computer doesnt crash, its fine.

Textures: As many as you like, just keep in mind that the more textures you have and the higher their resolutions, that means that the amount of RAM it takes during render is higher.

I am saying all this stuff about crashing and ram because most people dont have like 2-4 gb of ram and many of these super photorealistic renders take hours to render and have a nasty tendancy to crash. Just a precaution.

Anyway, thats my request, so pleez respond soon.

cYa LaTeR,
MaTt :alien:

magicsy 27-12-2005 05:42 PM

yo matt im in bro :D:beer: :attn:

MattTheMan 27-12-2005 05:42 PM

Alright then!
So I will create the thread for the interior scene

Joopson 20-02-2006 07:36 PM

Create a monster

To: anyone

Subject: low-poly Monster

Requirements: concept is by you.....MODELED ON YOUR OWN, doesnt need texture!

Anyone up to it?

Shadeblade 21-02-2006 06:59 PM

I think I'll go for it. I've never modeled anything organic, so I think this is a good chance for me to practice :)

Joopson 21-02-2006 09:10 PM

ok! i'll make the thread

MattTheMan 12-04-2006 12:00 AM

How about this:

To anyone Moderate-advanced at modeling

Subject: Photorealistic Car

Modeling- Preferably Polys, but if you really want to do it in NURBS go ahead

PolyCount- Try to keep it under 1,000,000,000,000,000 tris :D :p

Time limit- when someone replies, I will create a thread and we wll start then- and the limit would be a month.

Anyone up for it?

MattTheMan 13-04-2006 11:29 PM

No one?

Joopson 13-04-2006 11:53 PM

lol, i suck at that, but if your desperate i can try, but its your choice, being that i have been in a fair amount of contests with you, and its kinda annoying having the same person contest you each time, lol.... your choice.....

gster123 14-04-2006 08:30 AM

Would do mate but i'm pushed for time at the moment, end of may I will be up for a battle

MattTheMan 14-04-2006 12:43 PM

sorry joopson- no offence...

Ok well this just gives me more time to work on my raytracer so w.e

varley 14-04-2006 01:21 PM

I wouldnt mind doing this...just that Im in a gazillion other competitions, and Im lucky to finish

A photorealistic fantasy vehicle(or concept vehicle) would be more

MattTheMan 14-04-2006 09:24 PM

yeah... I think that I would like to eat my words now, b/c I really want to have time to do my raytracer, and i cant have 2 projects going at once b/c I wont finish either.

sorry 'bout that, peeps.

MattTheMan 01-06-2006 04:32 PM

Challenge Request-

To: Anyone

Topic: Photorealistic Inorganic Object

Modeling: Any method

Max Polys: 1919387410923894710293847 :D :p

Time: 2 weeks

Renderer: Any (Mental Ray, Maxwell, Indigo :p, VRay)

Modeling Prog: Any (Maya, 3ds Max, Lightwave, Silo... etc)

MattTheMan 02-06-2006 07:50 PM

nobody up for it? :(

Joopson 02-06-2006 11:40 PM

here is a question, by inorganic do you mean human made things???

MattTheMan 02-06-2006 11:50 PM

i mean not alive. a rock is inorganic (but boring to model and texture :p)

Joopson 03-06-2006 12:29 AM

if you want i can try, but as i said before, we have competitions alot, so its annoying to be competitive with the same person., but still... its your choice.. i personally dont care what you say, yes or no, because i am just bored and want to waste time, lol

MattTheMan 03-06-2006 12:57 AM

ok sure I will do it.

I'll make the challenge thread. If you want, you can render in Ingido, gives great results easy, and my script works (I'm actually adding support for meshlights and physical sky now)

but if I were you I'd use Maxwell. I'm gonna get it soon because of the amazing results that Maxwell users are getting, and, in particular- I LOVE this one-

by Thomas An from the Maxwell forums

Joopson 03-06-2006 01:03 AM

wow, yes, maxwell does get very good results... ok, this challenge should be fun!

THX1138 16-02-2007 01:47 AM

That maxwell render is awsome! Too bad Tomas chose to model 'CHEAP' speaker clips on that audio component, and no digital output for a external D/A converter either.
