My hea...um...My female head

Inspired by mtmckinley's female head I decided to try to model one too. Here's what I have done so far:

I need some comments and suggestions before I go any further. Feel free to be rough on me because I want this one to be my masterpiece (well, so far at least) :)

Btw, can you recognize her?

mtmckinley 30-09-2002 08:53 PM

nice. :) The side profile bears a resemblance to the Natalie Portman head shot at www.fineart.sk. :)

You cought me with my pants down :D

Btw, I noticed that I've done sort of same mistakes you (Mike) did with my model. I'm pretty sure why it happened. Photographs are always perspective shots and thus cannot be followed strictly in an orthographic viewport (especially the front reference image; the side profile has less distortion). That's why the front shot above looks a bit odd. It looks like it's been shot with a fisheye lense :)

A friend of mine gave me a valuable tip. After the initial render, open the image in photoshop and position/scale the face parts in there -> instant feedback and a reference for future modifications. Here's an example of the above shot after some photoshopping:

Hello Mr.brown,

Well, I like your work, I mean its really good but you have a problem in the eye as illustrated down here... :(

kbrown 02-10-2002 06:12 AM

Yup, I know. Thanks for pointing it out anyway. I'll pay some extra attention on there. This is in it's very early stages. I've been working on it only for couple of nights. I'll post some updates in couple of days...

kbrown 02-10-2002 08:24 PM

Phew...this is driving me crazy but I will prevail :)
Here's some updates:

It still needs some smoothing out but I'd like some comments anyway. I won't do the ears until the rest of the head is satisfying me.

People are different, but here's what i think.

A bulky nose has charm, a "feminine" nose would perhaps be slightly narrower as the nose goes up the face. I dont know what kind of look you are after, but im no expert.

The round and protruding forehead has charm, maybe its a little too protruding and rounded, seen in profile.

And the jaw thingy is best explained with the pic below.

Wow, she looks really nice!

kbrown 02-10-2002 08:59 PM

Thanks for your comments, undseth. This kind of feedback is exactly what I need. You know you get blind to your own work after staring it for too long :)

undseth 02-10-2002 09:33 PM

Hehe I also want to tell you that she's got killer lips!
