Creature

Here is a creature I've been working on for a little while. My problem is I don't know what to do with the feet and hands. Should I give him 3 toes like a dinosaur or 5 live a reptile or lion. I don't really know what to model or what reference to use since this is a fantasy creature. any ideas and comments on the creature in general would be nice, thanks.

Hey wishbone, your monster looks pretty darn cool! as for the feet...try doing a search for images of the gorgonopsid from the walking with monsters dvd-it has a similar look and feel to your beasty!

The pictures in the above may be of help^^

Looking forward to seeing more of it m8!

The gorgonopsid looks great, I have started to make the front feet paw-like but I think the back feet could be longer the way they are on the gorgonopsid. Thanks for the link!

Thank you Perfecto,

Here are the paws so far, Once I get the claws on he will look less puppy-dogish,

Hehe yeah he does look like a demi dog at the moment, kinda creepy. Nice work! :)

Thanks Weyu.

does anybody know where I can get displacment maps of reptile skin? I found some good ones at RGB XYZ but they cost a lot of money. I'm trying to find any free displacment maps I can.

Well if you have a small amount of money 200-300 dollars to spare then you could buy zbrush 2 or 3 and use it to create amazing displacement maps.

Otherwise try using photoshop, just create a brush with a pattern you like and spread it around.

Good luck! :)

very nice Wishbonekenobi - the displacement looks great!

do you mind if we see the displacement map? - i'm curious to see how you did the scale things on top.

Heres a link

You have to pay for them but if you buy all 36 maps it's real cheap, like 130 dollars. Individually they are expensive like 70 dollars a piece.

Bottom row second to the left is the one I used from the back. The site also has a few free maps that are cool including elephant skin.

Here's some color on the first UV shell. Still have some detailing to do.

I'm painting him one UV shell at a time. I want to paint the seams out in zbrush but it dosen't seem to support textures larger than 4096 x 4096 and this color map is somewhat larger.

wow very nice color textureing!

DJbLAZER 01-11-2007 06:33 PM

Zbrush3 supports textures of 8192x8192 AFAIK.
