2 questions - video tutorial by two American guys, and split vertex tool

Hi,

someone has given me a disk with various tutorials on it. One is an avi file; all it contains is a video capture of Maya being used, and two guys (both American I think) giving instruction on Maya as they use various tools. The tutorial is short but they mention that it's part of a series.

It is excellent and I would like to know who they are and what the series name is, and where I can get it. Anyone for any ideas?

Also, they mention the Split Vertex tool, which looks useful. But where is it or its equivalent in Maya 8.5? They're using an older version.

thanks,

gubar

Hey gubar,

Well i don't think i can help you mutch with the question about the tutorial, because there are allot tutorials for maya. You can try looking on this site or the site www.gnomon3d.com. The have video tutorials to.

But you can find the split polygon tool in maya 8.5 to. Make sure your menu set is set to polygons -> then go to edit mesh -> and in the drop down menu you will find the split polygon tool.

I hope this helps you.

Hi,

and thanks for the response. I know the split polygon tool, but the one in the video was different.

It was the split vertices tool, and it done this: say you pick any given vertice, and choose to split it. It is replaced with a new number of vertices, one for each edge that joined the original vertice. So, if you done ran it on a vertice say on the corner of a cube, you would then have 3 vertices, one for each edge; the edges from it would also be separated from one another, so you could then peel away each vertice of the corner individually, like you were unwrapping a present.

Also, they showed a tool called collapse polygons, which also seems to be gone.

If anyone knows anymore about these any information would be great.

thanks,

gubar

EDIT: The link you gave links to a site called tech space; has the original moved?
