Aliens - Power Loader
Well my friend has been bugging me for ages for me to make him a Power loader in 3D based on my kick ass toy/model that I got above my computer.
While I`m waiting on the storyboards and the script to be finished on my next project I thought I would give it a go now. I`m glad I have this high detailed toy as good ref images are hard to find and the quality of the film used to make aliens is so poor screen grabs from the dvd are not great. Any way got the lower part of the legs done - still needs bevelling in places and the pistons but going to do them once I figure out how to rig them up as - yes I want this guy walking http://www.ravage3d.com/images/powerloader/pl_1_1.jpg |
A little update
Also rendered it out in yellow just to make it look more finshed - but its no where near yet http://www.ravage3d.com/images/powerloader/pl_1_2.jpg |
Legs done apart from pistons which I`ll do at rigging time - they are built just not in place. This is going too quick !!!

Looks good! looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

Looks good, but I'm wondering how you're gonna smooth out those round things that are jagged...?

If you are talking about these parts - then thats part of the model - A very slight cog effect - if any thing I need to make them deeper If not Im not sure what you are on about |
I mean the part outside those round things.
|
Right got you - the upper most panel on the lower leg - I`ll work on it cheers
|
hey - tweetytunes - nice start - this looks cool so far - definitely liking the yellow. :)
|
Cheers as always Arran - but the yellow was camerons idea not mine - hehe
Anyway I think I`m over the half way mark already - in one day and I got to watch The Running Man in HD - Not a bad day at all. The real bitch will be the 20 cables this thing has got http://www.ravage3d.com/images/powerloader/pl_1_4.jpg |
What is this? Help on rigging pistons? I will help! I have rigged SO MANY pistons it's unbelievable. I'll upload a video of my skull crusher leg. It has three pistons on it.
Basically it's a matter of using locators, aim constraints and parenting. I'll go into more detail when needed. |
Cheers - but I got it covered - just going to set it up at rigging time.
I got the "The Art Of Rigging" vol 2 book and they are covered in there (whole thing is about rigging a giant high poly robot. I have done it before but forgot how to - but a quick read and its all back. Also got some tips for the cables in there as well. Great set of books I have all 3 Thanks again |

This is coming together nice and fast.... looks good too ;)
You'll probably have this thing finished come the end of the week. |
To be fair this is not that hard a model - I think rigging it will be the killer. Also trying too cut out the toy elerments and swapping it for detail is a little tricky in places.
