polygon to Subdivisions (Dragon's head) ???

Hello folks!

I'am a novice on simplymaya.com, currently working on the dragon's head tutorial and, I'm at a stage where I finished the upper and lower jaw, the neck and the eye socket ... Now i want to convert my polygons to Subd to refine my model a bit.

When I try to convert, an error message comes up that i need to see my script editor. My set up in polygons to Subd window is the same as the tutorials.

1/ What's wrong with my model?
2/ how can i find my script editor in maya?
3/ what should I be looking for in it?

Thanks for any possible help

sounds like you have to up the base mesh value in your poly to sub-d options. Go to modify> convert> polygons to sub-d> option box and you should see a number like 1000 rasie it up to about 3000.

The script editor is a little box on the bottom right courner. When you get that error coming up open the box and you can scroll over to the right and it should give you the excate number to put into the bash mesh options. Do this if you dont want to up it randomely.

Thanks Kurt...
I have tried what you suggested and it works, it get converted into SubD, but my vertices are now breaking up big time ...Especially around the eye.

It looks like my poligons couldn't get converted because My base mesh was containing too much vertices that didn't need to be there...I guess!
The Script editor ask me to go to Polygon>Clean up which I did and it highlighted two faces around the eye.

Should I re-try modeling the head and make sure that I clean up properly the vertices ?

Cheers

Under polygons you will see tool options open it up and and make sure keep faces is checked on. Sounds like that the problem. Now once you extrude the faces will stay together.

Hello Kurt

Just spent the weekend listening to your voice on the organik modeling part2....
Anyway, about turning my polygons to Subd ...
I was worried because once my polygons were converted to Subd, the vertices didn't seem to connect at some part of my model ...
Looking through the organic tutorial I realised that I just had to press 3 to smooth the whole thing so that's it really... I'm not stuck anymore!
Cheers : )
