Indigo Unbiased Renderer

I don't know if any of you have ever seen this renderer-

http://www.homepages.paradise.net.nz...my/indigo.html

Its unbiased, leave it on enough and the image will be completly artifact-free, since it runs on the Metropolis Light Transport algorithm, which is very efficient. You can use it as a pure path-tracer, or a pure Bi-Directional Path Tracer, and these are specified in the file that comes with it.

However, you need the scene to be in .xml format and it is kinda slow, but you can download converters from the site.

I like it a lot- more than Mental Ray.

Cornell Box Test- 18 minutes

Depth Of Field Test-33 minutes

Theses are just tests that come with Indigo v0.4

talking of unbiased renderers, i HIGHLY suggest maxwell Render by Nextlimit technologies, it is based on real light physics. and is very good... i rendered this in maxwell!
and you can render straight out of maya in maxwell, :)

and also, Indigo sounds cool,

MattTheMan 30-04-2006 03:01 AM

but Indigo is free!

here's my latest-

2 hrs 6 mins 57 secs

Joopson 30-04-2006 03:04 AM

well, yes, i suppose free is an upside, lol, nice renders too!

Joopson 30-04-2006 03:21 AM

how do you convert .MB to .XML?

MattTheMan 30-04-2006 01:05 PM

um... I think you have to convert .obj to .3ds to .xml :p

Joopson 30-04-2006 03:12 PM

much easier!, how do you do that? lol

pixelsoul 30-04-2006 03:28 PM

that maxwell render looks grainy the free ones too.. also in some renders you see some pixels light up ?

MattTheMan 30-04-2006 05:11 PM

well joopson-

yu know how to export obj, right? well just search on google for an obj-3ds converter. then once you do that use the programs that you can download with Indigo to change 3ds to xml

pixelsoul-
that's just cuz I didn't leave it on long enough- i am currently rerendering the Cornell Box scene- and so far its at 4hrs 10mins.

Also, in quality, its at 1550 mutations per pixel, i'm gonna wait until its at least at 3000-5000.

You see, you leave the program on until you get the results you want, or until you don't wanna wait anymore- b/c it will progressively get better quality while it's left on.

All looks pretty cool if you have the time. I think I will get it and have a play and see what I can get out of it.

Cheers for the link.

np! :)

well its not getting any better than this:

6 hrs 45 mins

2300 mutations per pixel

pixelsoul 30-04-2006 09:23 PM

Still a bit grainy.. on the demo page there are also pixels lighting, especially where light should shine through glass and such:

But on the other hand I think I can't complain to much for that price

MattTheMan 30-04-2006 10:03 PM

well- leave it on enough (wether its 20-50-100hrs) and it will come out unbiased.

dof test-rerendered

final output:

Done 769239200.000000 mutations (1602.581667 mutations per pixel)
Time elapsed: 5h, 16m, 28s
Mutations per second: 40511.347167
saving tone-mapped image to png...
done.

wow, i was skeptical not to try it at first but, these renders and render times convinced me not to try this POS. what a waiste of time.
