You could try XNA, thats free and works with .fbx files.

yeah, i was thinking of that. But its PC only. IS there anything like that for the mac

panda3D, works using python
supposidly a short learning curve you have to convert your models and stuff though cant remember if its oopen source, but its from CMU just google panda3D |
On the topic of game engines, anyone know if its possible somehow to import things into unrealEditor?

For Unreal, you might want to check this tutorial out. It's for MAX but it can be adapted and shows you the whole process.
