Poly Smooth

I had a subdivision character that I converted to polygons through modify > convert Sub-D to Polygon. Now i cannot smooth my character...

Why not?

What does it tell you when you apply Polygon->Smooth?

Are your trying to smooth or smooth the shading normals?
