Uv projection is messed up...

I have a rather strange problem at the moment, I tried to texture my object and had all my lovely polygons selected. But it didnt go as planned, only a handfull of my polygons were textured, even tho I could see the polygons uv texture editor they turned invincible when mapped(I have no transparancy maps on the object) :(

Try opening the Attribute Editor for the object.
Under the Render Stats, make sure Double Sided is checked.

Weyu 03-06-2007 01:35 AM

Thanks for the reply but "double sided" was already checked. :/

I hope this image help finding the answer. :)

You might need to flip the offending UV's faces.

If your running maya 8.5 theres an option in there to colour your UV texture editor, where blue is correctley facing and red is flipped the wrong way.

Run the option gster stated and then do a normals > conform operation. this should get the nomals pointing in the right direction. If not its all by hand I am afraid.

How do I flip the offending uv faces? :)

And I'm using maya 6.5 so I cant do that. :/

And I think that the polygons that are defect were created by using "create polygon" and then cut.

publicFunction 04-06-2007 02:17 AM

Maya 6.5 also has the normals conform option also.

Weyu 04-06-2007 02:31 AM

Yes, but sadly that did not fix my problem. :(

publicFunction 04-06-2007 02:37 AM

ok select one of the faces and do a normal > reverse to see if that fixes it

Weyu 04-06-2007 02:50 AM

Nope, reversing them didnt do any difference. :S

publicFunction 04-06-2007 02:53 AM

OK,

Only thing left is to apply a new projection, I would use a cylindlical projection for an object like that.

Weyu 04-06-2007 03:00 AM

Yeah but that problem happens again if i use spherical or cylindrical mapping, planar mapping works tho.(Like you mentioned I need cylindrical mapping) :/

gster123 04-06-2007 03:15 AM

Try this, select the faces that are not showing the texture, then go to polygons (in the UV texture editor) and there should be an option to flip the UV click that and give it a go.

Weyu 04-06-2007 03:42 AM

Yay got it working now, I had a wrong uv linked to the map *duh*
So using the relationsship editor I could easily fix it.

Thanks alot for all the help. :)
