Sounds like a new challenge is brewing. I hope to see it soon :)

I have your challenge. reinvent something from one of your favorite cartoons as a kid. For most of us that would be circa 1985-95. Example: Exo Squad, Dino Riders, Dinosaucers, Gargoyles. That good old saturday morning stuff you got up early to watch!

joverall22 23-02-2012 04:11 AM

Mam I think that is a great idea. I would love to recreate a Saturday morning cartoon.

puneet.3d 29-02-2012 09:58 AM

so what is the new challenge?

honestdom 29-02-2012 10:33 AM

i've probably suggested this before, but what about a group challenge?
one modeller, texture artist, rigger, lighter, animator
two or three teams maybe making a full cg environment and character/vehicle? much more chance of everyone finishing if other people are relying on you and if the task isn't quite as daunting.

great idea Dom .. not sure of the logistics of choosing a team or even if there are enough of each specialty on this forum but i would love to be in a group like that.

honestdom 29-02-2012 12:49 PM

yeah cool :)
perhaps you don't need someone with a speciality, and in fact a generalist role would be more useful i guess.
this could work for someone who wants to learn more animation but maybe doesn't want to do much rigging. or someone who wants to do lighting but not animation.
choosing a team could just come down to a team leader.

yes you have dom...(I think)....I would agree to that....not that I am a specialist in anything other than procrastination and lack of time/resources....I dont think choosing a team is an issue...let it be a rolling straw thing like in school...that way you DONT have the best of everything and it is a real challenge?

cheers bullet

I second a group challenge... PM people that you want to work with, maybe? Although I think it may actually decrease the chance of finishing, cause one person gets too busy and the whole team is left hanging. I can see that being a likely scenario.

I also think a group challenge is a cool idea. I agree about the high possibility of group members bailing out before the projects are complete as stwert mentioned. I personally don't mind bailing out of a competition when other stuff comes up or if I lose interest, however, if I'm part of a group that is relying on me, I stick it out til the end at all costs.

Hopefully, as honestdom said, others would be more willing to finish as well, especially if it's not to daunting of a project.

honestdom 29-02-2012 02:54 PM

I would say if someone has to drop out, its no big deal getting someone else to join the team to pick up the work.

MamoruK 29-02-2012 06:37 PM

i like this idea only thing is that it would need enough people to actually make enough teams to do. stipulation i think could be added is that everyone who wants to participate puts in what hey want to go in as 1st and then as a back up based on their strengths, like me i would put in as animator 1st and modeler 2nd based on my skills. The moderator puts the teams together and then do the competition in the style of the 11 second club.

tweetytunes 29-02-2012 07:10 PM

Id be down but only 4 the modelling

Chirone 29-02-2012 07:57 PM

I'm not against a group challenge so jokingly I see it as a popularity contest if we all pm our wanted team ;)

stwert 29-02-2012 08:10 PM

I think in order to prove to the admins that a group challenge is feasible and would be popular, some people should do a short 2 on 2 battle in the battle forum. If that doesn't happen, it's unlikely a full team challenge will be successful.
