move tool, grid
 

I was working on a model and I was using image planes and after I got pretty far I moved the model off the grid and scaled it really big. When I try to zoom in on it, it starts to disappear around the edges. And if I click on move, rotate or scale the icons come up on the model but they are grayed out. How can I get it back to the grid?
