First model (Transformer)....looking for some help

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

I am relatively new to Maya (I have been working with it for about 6 months on and off). This is also my first post here. I've been working on a Bumblebee Transformer model. I'm about 60% done with the head and I noticed some weird things happening to my high res model. It looks like there is some "pinching" going on. I've attached some images so you can hopefully see what I mean. Thanks for any help or comments you can give.

its not too bad id say just check the edge flow and move some stuff around... would you mind posting some wires?

btw nice model so far man

Thanks, acid, for the comments. Can I render with a wireframe or do I just take a screegrab of the screen while I'm modeling? If I can render with wireframes on how do I do that?

Thanks.

I found this, but I haven't tried it out yet:

Thats really good work for 6 months off and one. About your subject, do you have full refferences of the whole thing. Front, Back, side, and top to go from? These new transformers are extremely hard to model because they are comprised of hundreds of small pieces.

Thanks THX. I actually bought the toy I am modelling. The actual model doesn't have too many parts, but I was planning on adding more so it seems more real. Aside from buying the toy I got a lot of references from here seibertron.

I still need to get a wireframe up here for you guys to see. I'm still messing with the way the wireframe flows because I am still getting some pinching in some areas. I'm also getting a lot of nonmanifold errors which has slowed my progress. I am using v 8.5. Could this be a bug or its just because I'm a newb and my modelling technique isn't all that great?

Those are some pretty good refferences. Hope you can work out the problem.

Although I loath the redesign, the mechanics of these new transformers is very intriguing. One of the moderators over at CG talk almost closed the one of the transformer threads because of all the heated arguments and insults. Alot of people just cant appreciate the classic design anymore. I really think that Michael Bay could have made the classic characters look a little bit more like the cartoon versions instead of totally alienating them from their classic look. Optimus and Jazz are the only ones that look a little bit more like the cartoon incarnations than any of the other characters do. Check out this website to see some really cool classic TF models. Keep up the great work and I will keep a close eye on your progress!

So I finally got around to taking some screengrabs of my wireframe. I've done a little tweaking, but I would love to get some feedback (good or bad). If you see anything that stands out as odd or if there is something that could be done better please let me know. This is all about the learning experience. Thanks!
