quick question.. was this image done with Maya?
 

Is this done with Maya or is it an illustration? Or some mixture of the 2?

It would be kind of lame if they didn't do it with Maya.. but you never know.. also.. this image looks much better than the model in the books photos so it really makes me wonder..

I would have a guess yes it was, its probably different from the book as they would have done more work to make it look better for print.

Theres probably some post photoshop work too to add the polish.

I thought the cloth material was the most suspect.. do you think that cloth look can be acheived with Maya?

I guess I will see for sure when I am through the entire book.. hopefully!

I had never seen anything like that with Maya before. It looks very realistic.

maya is used for a lot of realistic fx. do some searches, you'll find out just how amazing and realistic you can make things look with maya if you know how to texture and light a scene properly

i dont really see what looks realistic about that, but yeah its in maya.

thats really the least maya can do in terms of realism.

I just thought the rough texture on his fabric suit looked really good.

Most maya stuff I have seen has a plasticy look too it - -smooth or glossy.

But I'm a noob, you know, so I am haven't seen a ton. :D

Also, the picture I linked to is poor quality so you can't really see the texture very well
