rendering changing background...

is there a way to change the rendered background ? without putting a large plane behind it :p
cause its allways bitch black and for composing its sometimes very very unusable (shadows or simply black objekts..)
or can i render it out on other way to geht the alpha in the scene for adobe after effekts...

(sorry for my bad english...)

one way is to select the cam u r rendering from
and in the attributes, find the evironment tab and change the color u want from there.

The background has no matte, so it is transparent when compositing. Iff, tiff, and targa's have the alpha channel. Bmp and jpeg do not. The other formats I do not use.
