Texture curved?

Im new to maya and Im sure im missing something that is really quite simple.

Im following the free basic human form modelling tutorial. My problem is that when it comes to dragging the lambert onto the poly plane that ive created it comes out distorted, as if its putting the image onto a sphere rather than the flat plane im dragging it onto. In the video tutorial the guy just drags and drops and it fits perfectly undistorted so it makes me feel even more stupid!

Ive been scouring forums and searching everywhere for the answer but im probably using the wrong terms or not asking the right questions! Closest ive come to a result is via Planar mapping.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

In the tutorial, does the guy use a nurbs plane? Possibly whay you are doing is using a poly plane which will require some kind of uv mapping.

Try again with a nurbs plane and see what happens.

Well he says Nurbs and uses Polys so that confused me a bit in itself. Ive tried with nurbs now and it is still doing the same thing. Maybe some sort of preference or a simple button i need to check?

Not sure then mate... could you post an image of the problem (take a print screen of the maya viewport)?

Might help in figuring out what is wrong

If you are using Maya 7 then follow this

1) Find the Maya.env file (...\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\maya\7.0)

2) Open it with any text editor such as notepad

3) Add the following line to the end of the file:

MAYA_NON_POWER_TWO_OFF = 1

This will tell your graphics card to display the images differently.

4) Save and reset Maya.

If you are are on a later version of Maya then you can up the display quality of the image in the Attribute Editor to cure it and if that doesn't work sometimes changing the format of the image might solve it because .tiff can give funny results if the compression is of a certain type so convert it to .jpg
