Some cities for a planet?
I want to make a planet that has some city lights on the dark side of the planet, but I don't know how to make them to be visible in the dark and invisible in the light.
Does anyone knows how I can do that? |
Hmmm....that sounds pretty cool......I'm a total noob and would love to hear the answer to this........I was going to try and do a moon base, which would be similiar.

Also new to Maya, not new to max though. In Max's material editor there was a self-illumination set. I created a high-res map for the planet with colored specks and lines, etc, and mapped that onto the sphere as self-illumination map. I'm sure Maya has a similar ability.

there site is 3dworldmag.com
;) |
I find the issue, but I need to buy it...
Any ideas on how I can make those lights? I have found 2 topics about this on a forum, but I don't understand. |
I'd think the easy way to do it would be to either animate the lights going from on (intensity value higher than zero ("0")) to off (intensity value of zero).
If you are going to do still images you can composite it in with a similar method or use your favorite image editing app. |
I don't really know... I think that I will not use lights on the planet.
Thanks for all the help! ;) |
