falling camcorder

Is there a way to add dynamics to a camera?

supposing i want to model a tower and throw a camera off the top of the roof using gravity, how would i go about that?

can you make a camera collide with an object? i reckon you could get some good effects if this were possible.

ideas anyone?

How about grouping it to another object like a locator or box make that object invisible and add all the dynamics to that object.

I am sure that would work!

If I got time and no one's watchin at work I'll give it a go!

Dynamics, long render time your looking at. Im sure there are some mel scripts also that deal with shattering geometry. Actually I think there are some dynamic options for it. Hmm, but dont listen to me. Haynesy seems to know what he/she is talking about.

Yep it worked parent a camera under say a box and add all the effect to the box the boxes transform node then adjusts the transform node of the camera.

Sweet camera bouncin time!

The problem is with "collisions" -- it will collide but you won't get the lens shattering or scratchy film... that'll need to be in post-production.

Yeah most probably or you could just apply a short movie clip to a transparent texture that starts when camera Y direction is positive or sumthin like that shouldn't be too hard!

Another way to do the lens shattering could be to apply a texture for the shattered lens to an invisible plane and parent it to the camera so that it's always in front of it, and then making it visible when the camera hits something...

But doing it post is probably better since you won't have to re-render everything if something's wrong. But if you insist on doing as much as possible within Maya, this could be the route to take

Cheers guys, some nice idea's there
i'm not too bothered about the camera lens smashing or the camera breaking actually.
I just wanted to lob a camera around some scenes and bounce it off stuff just to see what it felt like to be bashed about like a tennis ball! :p

I think i might model a MASSIVE tower just to see what the camera fall looks like
