Mayaniac "Stand Guard" Battle
Well, I have an idea or two. The one I'm entertaining at the moment though, is a Minotaur with battle armour, maybe with futuristic influences.
His main weapons will be a long bow.... yeah, I know, sounds boring, but I have a few ideas for the design. This is just an idea. It could change, but I have until tomorrow to finalize my idea. Cheers! |
is this between you and tweety tunes? i missed this!

aah, sounds a good one, ive got 2 more weeks of my matte painting course and am getting to wondering what to do next. its been almost 2 years and i've still never had the guts to get involved in a challenge. i definitely will do one day, but have to say no this time:( good luck to you both...
thanks for the offer tweet. appreciate it. |
Well, I've decided to go with the Minotaur idea I had. Though I'm thinking of straying a bit from the traditional idea of a Minotaur. Thinking about going for a Buffalo head instead of a Bull's head. Also going for some futuristic, yet tribal armour (still thinking about that). He will have a series of weapons, a long bow (of unique design) and maybe a couple of axes.
Minotaur: http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o...fSheet_001.jpg Buffalo: http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o...fSheet_002.jpg Some Chronicles weapons I like the feel of: http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o...ponRef_001.jpg I really Like the feel of the big thick buffalo head, and the thick heavy fur. I'm going to be going into ZB later on, to rough out a silhouette so I can start to get a feel for the general proportions and weight of the char, and also so I can start to design his armour. |
You got some great reference there Steve, those buffallo heads, and a couple of those illustrations, particularly the one with the gold armour...coool.

Glad I`m not doing the fur - that might be tricky.

Quick concept rough-in. Just wanted to get some shapes laid down, see how things felt. This is purely for concept reasons, this isn't the the base mesh or anything, this will be used for finalizing the design, and also for a base for paint-overs so I can design his armour. Started with Zspheres: http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o...Doodle_002.jpg http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o...Doodle_001.jpg I'm going to really bulk this guy up. Give him a really heavy feel, this is just starting out, but instead of waiting until I finished the concept sculpt, I thought I should post some progress, as Tweety has already... didn't want people to think this was a one-man comp. |
Hi Steve
Realy strong start, how are you going to do the fur, in zbrush or in maya................dave |
Steve, I really like the thoughts you are having for this!! I am sure it will be very good. Will be fun to watch!!
|
Holy crap dude - I thought I was moving fast - well I got the day off so nerrr nerr nerr nah,
Only joking very nice start. Is this guy going to have feet or hove`s ??? |
Looking great Steve, nice start!
Would join in but I'm entering the NVart comp over at CGSociety so won't have time, dammit! lol Looks like you two will be having a lot of fun with this one, and I'll enjoy watching! |

Thanks Tweety, I have heard that, but won't let it put me off. It was a subject matter that I couldn't resist though.
Anyhow, don't want to hijack the thread, just wanted to say cheers.... |
@dave: Thanks man, gonna do the fur in ZB I think. I really don't want to have to mesh around with fur sims.
@Tom: Thanks, I appreciate the comments. @tweety: Cheers man, yeah he's got hooves now. @Dango77: Thanks. I didn't really think the guys over at the HMC were that bad. I haven't taken part in a contest over there, but I have followed a few and have never noticed anything like that. Anyway, good luck with it. Thanks guys. Small update: http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o...Doodle_003.jpg http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o...Doodle_004.jpg Theres not too much details on the head or hands and what not, as I'm just trying to achieve a good base concept. I will start doing some paint overs soon. See if I can't come up with something cool for his armour. Cheers. |
