Faster render times?

Hey just wondering if there is any way to speed up my computer's render times, and also which contributes to fast render time like ram or processor?

For rendering with Maya, most often than not more/better processing power is better for most things.
And not just CPU, but also a good GPU in your graphics card pipeline.
A great quad-core machine is nothing without a quality video card that is recommended by Autodesk:)

I honestly cannot speak of ram usage as a major NEED for most things in Maya, as much as the following:

Ram and fast drives/arrays are where it's at for fcheck playback, and all your post work.

Did any of that help at all?

Good luck!

Thanks, do you know of a way that you can set it so maya uses more of your processor/graphics card memory to focus on rendering, raather than other programs running on the computer at the same time?

Ctrl + alt + del - > Processes - > right click on maya - > Set priority -> High , Realtime as u wish :beer:

Since I am not a qualified hardware guy, instead of guessing and possibly telling you to break something, hehe, I point you in this direction:

For a HUGE encompassing overview of how to tweak the heck out of your scene as much as possible to help rendertimes, the WHOLE chapter in the Maya HELP called Quality, render speed, diagnostics rocks!

BUT, for just pure power increases, I believe you may be looking for this page:

From the main Help navigation go to:
Using Maya > Rendering and Render Setup > Rendering > Quality, render speed, diagnostics > Increase Render Speed > Increase overall rendering speed

Good luck!
