import illustrator curve problem
 

hi all - i'm trying to import a curved shape from illustrator into maya 8.5. the file imports ok, but the curves become flattened out, so it's more like a series of straight lines than curves. the funny thing is, if i import text it comes in perfectly.
using mac osx 10.4. can anyone help, as i just can't seem to fix this problem
