Furry Yeti

Iv been going through the holiday tutorial and i think im pretty much done on the yeti.

Im not happy about the eyes and the fur on the lips tho. Iv tried everything to try and get rid of the fur on the lips, even going inside the model and using the baldness tool to erase the fur but with no luck :headbang:

love your yeti ....

i dont think it is the eyes ...but i could be wrong ..i think the nose and upper jaw might be where the issue like i have seen a yeti lately lmao

reason I say this ..if you look up lower jaw ..it is out there alot further than upper but to each his own ..i think if upper was out more than it would be better and the nose would have to come out too and things come together for the model ...Just in my opinion but love it

I really like the fur ..good job ...

also is this dvd for beginner or more intermediate user ?

Hi there!

I totally agree with you! You know when you look at something for so long, you dont realise where it might look wrong!

Im really pulling my hair out on trying to remove the fur on his lips and it just wont seem to go away!

As for the tutorial, i think its a mixture of beginner and intermediate level of use. Its explained really well, although in some places i was slightly confused as to which hotkey was pressed but overall, i think kurt did a great job of guiding us through it. Its a great way of learning the various techniques in maya.

well i like the fur on lips ..but that is just me ... oh trust me ..i have a WIP ...during kurts dragon tutorial and geeeeeeeez i have seen it so many timesi have to post it cause i look at one spot and just get so anal on it til I get it right .

dont pull your hair out cause remember you cant add that back like in maya

after seen your yeti i will probably try this one out after my dragon

The fur takes a while to get it to lay right.. Also did you add the fur to a light.. If not select the hair and then shift select your main light in your rendering menu set move to the left and find fur tap, find fur shadowing attributes and hit add selected light that should help the fur... the model came out nice good work

this yeti looks more intriguing or more desperate for luke skywalker than kurts one.

are you thinking about making the set?? or have you done that already?

arfanahmed786 24-05-2006 01:22 PM

No, i just wanted to make the character.

I want to concentrate on character modelling and animating so i dont really want to go off in other directions. Im very keen on doing the Orc Head and lip sync tutorial next.

Hi I found this (really old) post whilst searching for help on applying the fur preset, and I too had problems with cleaning up the fur around the lips and ears. You're probably way advanced now anyway but I thought I'd let you know how I fixed this problem just in case.

I found that by going to windows>outliner and selecting the 'Gorilla_FurFeedback' node under the 'FurFeedback' node and upping the U and V samples to 500 I had a lot more control over what I was removing. (This did slow my machine down a bit so I guess it has to be used in moderation.)
