problems with axonometric view in maya
hi,
I have a camera in maya for which I have enabled the orthographic view. I am making an axonometric image of the building I modelled, of which I would like the corners between lines that are 90 degrees in plan te be 90 degrees in my axonometric view. as it is now, the angle between these 90-degree lines is only 90 degrees if I look at the building from top or sides - I do not succeed in making a 'true' architectural axonometric image in which all the lines that are 90 degrees in plan remain 90 degrees in my axonometric view. for instance, in the attached image the lines have an angle of >90, about 118 degrees... anyone who can help me out? thanks! tom |
Hi There Tom
I might be way way off the mark (having never done anything with that yype of projection) but maybe you need to alter the camera properties of the camera your looking through so they match what your after? |
if i understand you correctly, then what you're trying to do would mean that it would no longer be an axonometric image - by it's very nature, the angles would have to be greater than 90.

Thanks for the quick replies, I uploaded an image of what I'm after:
http://www.tomvandeputte.nl/axostirling.jpg in architectural drawings, the idea of such an axonometry (maybe I'm mistaken with the name) is that one can simply rotate a building plan - which remains the same (the proportions remain the same, it does not distort) in the axonometry. I hope I make myself clear, and someone knows how to fix this! |
HAve you tried adjusting the focal length for the lens, put it hi...

tried it, but it increasing the focal length actually gives exactly the same problem as the 'orthographic' view...
|
okay, it was worth a shot, have a look around HighEnd 3d there may be a script for the camera
Jay |
dont you want an orthographic type view?
|
I take it you have rendered that image? But you still see the same and not "streched" as it is in the sample image.
Usually the focal length of the camera should fix this and allow the "streching" of the lens. But this would put the angles out and they would no longer appear at 90°. Try This Link: http://www.ozoneasylum.com/11862 and http://www.highend3d.com/boards/inde...owtopic=214964 It looks to me Maya does not/or cannot support it, but Max does as Max has a background in visualisation and arcitechture, where maya does not. |
just get a pencil, ruler and draw it LOL
