Free/Trial?cheap Compositor

i have been messing about with a few tutorials and some of the stuff i have needs compositing so i can finsh them off.

obviously im not heavily into this side of 3d stuff, (well not yet anyway) so after effects or whatever is out of question. Anyone know a good program i could mess about with?

Nem 29-09-2002 12:50 AM

i think you can order trial CDs of combustion and that :)

Try Premier 6 its good and easy to work with give that a shot.

Nem 29-09-2002 12:56 AM

yeah premiers pretty good as well, but thats not really for compositing, mainly editing i belive

adldesigner 29-09-2002 02:05 AM

Combustion ... Or even Photoshop -lol-

Lemmy 29-09-2002 10:01 AM

hhe i know i'v only done some short sequences but im not gonna sit an individually composite 150 frames:eek:

adldesigner 29-09-2002 10:11 AM

Who said "individually"? :D

Might want to check upon Photoshop´s docs for info on batch editing (With their ActionScripts). That way You just click and he does the rest ..

Sometimes they even use it to blur (Depth of Field) some rendered layers just in case the renderer didn´t do a good job ...

Now Of course Combustion or AfterEffects are better .. just saying it CAN be done in Photoshop. :)

didnt know you could do that...have to go away and read the manual or some tuts....manuals are always so dull.

Nem 29-09-2002 10:23 AM

thats actually a pretty good idea for simple things :)

Protheus 29-09-2002 11:18 AM

I use Combustion 2.0. Great program, now includes particle system so very very nice. Dut I am not sure if there is an trail version available !

Yeap .. for example Jeremy Birns (3drender.com) makes a heavy enfasis on rendering by layers, this way you could actually grab a bunch of layers (say the background ones for example) and batch process them all to a desired effect (You know how photoshop handles effects on 2d images, so instead of letting the renderer actually calculate everything you can manually tweak the results). It has great possibilities (However If it´s an animation better go with after effects which can already comp those images without all the batch-editing-jargon ... :)) (or Combustion for all that matters)

Great huh?

mtmckinley 29-09-2002 04:41 PM

I didn't know that either, adl... hrrmmm. :P I've had a compositor on me this whole time!! :D

Thanks for the info!

Lemmy 29-09-2002 10:11 PM

well seeing as i cant afford combustion/after effects at the moment i will have to give it the photoshop treatment..

cheers adldesigner:D

:D you´re welcome people! Glad to be of any help ...

*edited: More on rendering in layers here ... (That is one ugly head LOL)
