Realistic Coffee Cup
1 Attachment(s)
I'm trying to create a realistic coffee cup.
1) I found a "coffee" shader at highend3d, but actually it consist of two different shaders - how do I mix these together? 2) Besides that, I would like to create some damp (smoke) from the hot coffee to make it even more realistic. Which way should i do that? I attach an image of the cup as it is now - rendered with mental ray - final gather. :banghead: |
You could make the smoke/steam in photoshop. If you want to make it with just Maya, try the smoke effect/particles.

Ah... ok---- > what about the shader thing...???

This is what I have so far...

this looks a lot better!
Try putting some bubbles in the coffee so it doesnt look so "plain" ;) and put even more smoke... coffee is hot :D lastly, why is the cup plain white? design it with your name, put some things on it and have fun! -Emo |
Yes - youre right Emo. Coffee IS hot ;-)
How would you go around making the bubbles?? |
hmm... maybe edit the coffee texture?

I havn't been able to take a good look at that coffee shader at highend, but I believe it is a layered texture or shader, and comes with a "bubbly" image that goes on top. ( I think)
...at least, that's the way it looks in the sample pic. Thanks for the help Emo! Yeah, sometimes folks underestimate the power of sprites, and when they are raytraced, they look even better sometimes:) Keep going in the direction that you are going, and you will be fine:) |
hey rage - it seems that my problem is to deal with the coffee shader. It comes in two parts, but I cant get the bubbles to show up...

Oh, sorry, my bad:)
In his readme, he says: "Sorry for not making one layered shader but two separated SGs. It's easily transformed into one for using it on only one object, but if you decide to make two round planes with each shader results are even better." See what he means? He basicly tells you to make 2 round planes, and apply the black shader to he bottom one, and the Coffee shader to the top one. Lemme know if this helped, otherwide, I'll make it a single shader for you so that you only have to point to the Drops image, and it will work:) Lemme know. |
