Using rescources from download section

Hello,
I am getting Maya in a couple of days from a friend. I wanna be active on this forum and get some help and show off some work. I just came across the download section with all the textures/models/plug ins etc. I was wondering if I were to make a animation if I am allowed to use some of these models and textures. I looked over some and they look amazing and I dont think I would be able to make those in a very very long time. So am I able to borrow them? Or am I allowed to download them for learning purposes only? Or what? Thanks guys, hope to see you all soon with some work. :p

so... you have no problem 'getting maya from a friend' but you'll ask permission to use models and textures?

that's funny to me.

As long as you approach the owner of the asset, get their permission and give credit where required, then I can't see an issue. Any of the assets done by Kurt, Mike or the others are very good, but these guys help run this site.

You only get what you ask for. That's all I will say...

Alright I see. So what are they really used for? Learning? Or what do most people use them for?

Any resource in the download section is usualy used for learning and personal projects. If you were to take any of these assets and put them into the commecial sector, but not give credit to the creator... You could be liable to plagerism (passing someones work off as your own, not to mention various international copyright laws...)

Real tricky subject talking about the copyright ownership of others property.

Personal/Learning use = OK
Commercial use = Better kiss the creator A** and hope they say you can use for credit to be given to them.

Really its a legal issue that I can only give a little advice on as I studied Civil and Criminal Law as a UK Military Police Officer, so what I say is not gospel...
