May/June - Norm - T1ckL35

I'm in :)

Going to use the model from the previous challenge (the transformer). Just low poly'ing it now ready to learn about rigging and animating :)

yay my favorite character (mr. heavy) will be in this competition also..

t1ck135 05-05-2006 12:40 PM

definately 13th_resident ;)
He'll be a lot lower poly (around 4-5k) and probably with slightly different feet

priimate 06-05-2006 05:48 AM

Hi Tick.! Great to see you're in too! Good luck with the comp!:attn:

Cheers! priimate.

t1ck135 10-05-2006 08:58 PM

hey priimate :)
good luck to you too!

Finally got around to finishing the model as a low poly character. He's roughly 4300 tris but could be cut down a heck of a lot if the challenge was about modelling (which it isnt).
All ready for a new rig to be created and then its time to rough out the basics of the animation - priimate on simplylightwave has got some cool stuff for us animation noobs to see on how to build up the processes/keyframes etc.

First idea for an animation is a punch attack.
He'll wind it up and swing it through with as much force as possible.

I will probably also do a walk and run cycle (ground shaking style) but these will be secondary to the punch attack ;)

Hey T1ck - really great to see you keep working on your transformer robot for this challenge. The wind up punch attack reminds me of a move that Kuma the bear used in Tekken 2.

Good luck mate.

Hey Tick!

That sounds cool! It should suit your character really well!

PS. I just watched an episode of "Robot Chicken" where Optimus Prime gets a prostate examination from Ratchet - I now burst into hysterics every time I see a transformer!:D

sorry for the delay in responding guys, been a bit busy over here.

I've got a problem with the rig I'm learning on and am probably going to have to redo it (good learning experience though).
Also its not easy finding reference video of the type of punch I'm after and if you dont have a video camera to capture it then it could get difficult.
As with what priimate is doing, I'm going back to try some 2D studies on the main parts of the animation and am going to have a go with 'plastic animation paper', a shareware program for creating 2D animations with a graphics tablet.

Good luck with your heavy robot.
It will be hard to make a lot of movements with it massive breadth.

t1ck135 24-05-2006 09:51 PM

thanks kiveun :)

Man, this rigging thing is a bit hard!
I've spent the last couple of weeks doing and redoing and redoing the rig. Its a damn heavy slog to start with but is worth it in the end.
It must take months and years of practice to get exactly what you want.

Anyways, I've got the rig at a 'usable' stage ready for some animations.
As a tribute to the world cup starting soon one of my animations will be kicking a ball and maybe saving a shot too ;)

Anyways here's a pic of my current rig (definately will change) and a quick pose (as I'm testing for deformation problems etc).

Here's a very basic start to a walk cycle. I've only concentrated on the lower torso at present to try and get some flow to the movement.
Haven't figured out how to loop the animation in the trax editor yet but will soon ;)

Really nice start. :D
Just a little twist in the middle of the body:confused:
Keep it:beer:

t1ck135 31-05-2006 12:21 PM

Thanks kiveun :)
Yep the middle doesn't quite twist smoothly - I think it is the painted weights as they seem to be all or nothing around the middle. I'll have a look into it and see if it can be altered.
I've added the basic arm movement in and will post it up later :D

t1ck135 31-05-2006 05:35 PM

Here's an update with a basic arm movement :)
