New monitor
Wondering if you guys could give me some much needed advice. I am looking into getting a new monitor and am trying to work out what to get. These are the 2 I am thinking about at the moment.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...idnight%20Grey http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=MO-026-OK This will be used as a monitor 1st and foremost although I will watch movies and stuff from time to time and play the odd game. If anyone out there owns one of the above monitors and or can give some helpful advice it would be much appreciated. Many thanks, Leon |
From a 3d world review a while back the Dell ones are meant to offer great value for money with great features.

bah, just get a 42" LCD tv abd prop it up on your desk :)
|
Steve is absolutely right.
I picked up this last week http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna...sdt1&sku=88221 its gone down 20quid since and is now £134, I paid about 157 which was still a good deal.... oh and it arrived within two days!! Jay |
Cheers guys. That dell looks very good for the money Jay + I could get 2 of them and have a dual monitor set up for about the same price as 1 24" although that may be a little excessive. Not as excessive as a 42" though lol.
Will probably make a decision in a week or so and gonna keep looking for the moment. Thanks, Leon |
Forgot that I've got a dell laptop! LOL
It runs at 1900 X 1200 and its lovely, nice and vibrant and pin sharp. |
t for the link jay^^ been looking for a new monitor for sometime and that looks great-cheers again.

Beware of dodgy advertising claiming a display with a 18-bit LCD panel as a 24-bit display.
My two cents. |

It is very good, Im just saving for another one but also with a Dell Precision PC now. Going to start it off on 8gb ram and a Xeon proc for good measure! Cheers Jay |
Sounds like a plan Jay.
Got 8g of ram a while back and things have run great in vista since. Also what is the difference with Xeon processors, I use a q6600 which I got a good year ago. Cheers, Leon |
Good one jay.
Yeah I love the Dell monitors as they are just Dell-branded Samsung monitors, so that rocks. I got 2 of these from Dell a little more than a year ago when they were on sale for $250 a piece: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...5&sku=320-6523 I chose those because of the res and the 2000:1 contrast ratio. I noticed in your monitor link Jay that monitor seems to only have an 800:1 contrast ratio. I do some serious color correction in Autodesk Lustre 2008 and do you notice anything washed out? or are the blacks pretty black, etc. Just wondering for future reference, in the event I wanna buy some spare monitors, I love the price of those. |
Cool mate
As far as I know and someone please correct me if I am, but they have a better cache and multiprocessor capabilites. Rage: Yeah its pretty good, my last monitor wasnt nearly as good and the blacks were good in that but this is very cool. Also the screen contrast is very good generally, I had to tone it down in the settings as the whites were WHITE!!! and that was at 80%, I have it down to 75 with the bright 68 and it still looks crisp. Overall though the greys are looking neutral, not to warm etc which often the case with alot of monitors cheers jay |
Got a 24" monitor but am unsure about something. When in photoshop I noticed that the monitor has a few streaks in certain areas that are noticeable when the screen if filled 100% white, red, green etc etc but are not there when black. Does this mean it is not a back light bleeding problem. Most would not notice it but I have very good eye sight and so am unsure if I should return it. It is very faint and so I may send it back and get told there is nothing wrong with it and have to pay the postage both ways and a 10 pound charge.
If this is something that all larger monitors do to some extent please let me know. Many thanks, leon |
what make did you get?
Also check the driver settings for your graphics card, they may need an update _Jay |
Decided to get the 24" off overclockers since it was only 210 quid and does full HD which will come in handy. I think I am probably expecting to much for my money and may return it and spend an extra 250 for something that is 100 percent.
Thanks for the tip with the drivers but already gave that a go. Cheers, Leon |
