An ax for starters

Here is an ax that I modeled, I hope to make a full suit of armor eventually, but I have to start small. Please let me know what you think of it so far, I have shown the mesh shots because I think there might be a better way to do this, does it seem to complex for the shape it is going after? Also is an ax that thin? The big problem I have is trying to make the edge sharp in the Z direction yet a smooth curve in the X and Y directions... any suggestions?

there is different kinds of axes. some have a thin blade to shop something off and some are start thin at the blade and become really thick the closer it goes to the handle. i think the thick ones are called split axes - usually only good for hard stuff like wood that breaks open and needs not be cutted whole way.

Thank you Raull and BabyDuck. That is true, regarding the thickness, it would depend upon the appication. I imagine since this one is meant to cut as deep as possible that perhaps the thin blade is appropriate.

Any suggestions on how to give the blde a smoother edge? Should I spit the polys some more? Also is there anything wrong with using both quads and triagles on the same mesh? Should I go with one or the other?
