An alien and a back garden...Basic animation (help please!)

Hi whats up y'all..
First up, much respect to the artists on here, I been looking through the work posted here and some of it is nothing short of spectacular. Anyway, here's a link to my humble lil animation I been working on (I've been working with maya maybe a month) and I was wondering if anyone could offer me any insight/help/feedback/abuse, etc..

I've got an alien type character in a backyard scene and I'm having real problems animating it. I'm using keyframes, but whenever I move certain sections of the character, the whole shit just becomes deformed. I just need to make the alien walk to the end of the path he's crouching on..My frustration nearly ended with my cat being stomped out and hurled under a bus, gaaaaahhh..Any how, sorry for the long winded post, hope y'all can offer me some insight. Make it walk and my sister is yours for the night..and my mother too haha..

Here's the file:

Peace!
