trouble rendering dense mesh

Hi pros!

Im using realflow 3 and i just did a mesh but when trying to render it maya 6 using mental ray it just aborted...this happens with any model that is very dense, im a newbie so i think the correct term is too many polys? or faces?

I have a 2gb memory and only loading the mesh takes 1.05gb

attach is a sample of what im trying to do...

any idea?

What the heck is that and why do you need a million faces to define it? MR is slower to begin with, how does it do in software?

In Real Flow, select your mesh and increase the polygon size. This will create your mesh with fewer polys. Increase it as high as you can while still getting acceptable results.

When you have million+ polys maya tends to become unstable. If you absolutely have to have such a dense mesh try freeing as much memory as you can and use batch render (make sure to close maya after you start it or use the command line). Batch render is more stable.

However, it seems like your mesh would look fine with like 1/4 of the number of polys you have now. Try following Dann's advice. Also, turn on "Optimize" under "Mesh" in RF. This will create a dense mesh in areas that need more detail and less dense in areas that do not.

ill re-rework the water in RF, and let you know!

thanks for the good help! guys!

Just for future reference, please keep your screenshots to 640 x 480 or smaller, otherwise it blows the forum out. Since you have a direction to go on your project, I've deleted your original screenshots. You can read the rules here.
