Paint Effects RAM usage

Hi people!

Here I am with another Paint Effects question. Hope you don't mind... ;)

I am rendering a fairly simple scene (well, I think it's very simple) that contains 2 trees and a reasonably amount of grass (smaller portions instanced) on the ground.

My problem is that batch rendering increases the RAM usage until mayabatch crashes. The only workaround I found is to simply reinitiate the batch from whichever frame it stopped when crashing. It works fine, but it means that I have to be doing this every couple of hours, since it renders about 100 frames until crash.

I'm using 3gb RAM on a Windows XP OS and rendering with maya software, using no shadows at all.

Do anyone have a better idea how to optmize this increasingly RAM usage?

Thanks in advance

Found a way out! (Again)

Did more rendering tests and I think I found a way out also for this PFX issue.

Converting the big Paint Effects Tree Brush Type from [Mesh] to [Paint] seems to solve the problem.
Well, now I guess I can leave MayaBatch rendering through whole night unnatended without worrying about crashes.
The memory usage when batch rendering doesn't seem to reach more than 1GB until now, and it looks very stable.

As for this, would it be right to conclude that [Mesh] Brush Type can cause RAM usage issues?

Hope this might help others just as it helped me.

Thanks!

Yes, you are correct.

The MESH type is actually including TONS more geometry into your scene, and duplicating brushes just makes things worse.

I'm glad you found the correct way of solving this issue, so I am going to make this post STICKY so others may be able to learn from it:)

Great job!

Izzy

Hi Izzy!

I struggled a lot to understand what was going on with my scene, and I'm very glad to know you find it useful for SM community. It's an honor for me that you turned my post Sticky...
Thanks a lot!

Mario
