Character wip.......

1 Attachment(s)
Hi,

Here is a character I hope to use for my reel. He is meant to be a almost scrawny 'Crack' addict who fall victim to a Narcisistic tendencies in front of the Drug squads surveilance cam in his crack den.
He is only modelled from the waist up as that is all the camera sees. He will (hopefully) be covered in tatoos (both real and home jobs...(mum/love/hate, etc.....)

First impressions are what Im after!!!!!

Does he work ????????

All critz welcome.

Fantastic, he looks possibly a bit "well-fed" for a crack addict. But you can probably make him look more gaunt in the texturing.

His "pecks" seem a little pert for a guy they should probably be a little flatter and lower down the chest area a bit.

Looks excellent though, looking forwards to seeing more.

He's got character all right.
Fascinating model.
The subtle shapes of the skin in the face make him look very realistic.

I feel this is a very characterized model, yet the tissue under the jaw, the non-distinct-neck-muscles, cranial-shape and the placement of his spine/throat connecting the head to the torso, makes him very realisic in a way, that resembles real people, that has that special look on'em.

I also want to state that his jaw is probably a bit too protruding, for a "usual" person. But it gives him a strong character!

Two thumbs up!

Nice clean model,, looking forward to seeing him textured....

Looking good jim, the face certainly makes it look like he's got a bit of attitude.

Jim, very nice model... What did you model it? NURBS or POLY?

undseth 12-02-2003 10:13 AM

I'm guessing this is a poly model... so...

How can you make this model with (apparently) such a low poly count (by looking at the wireframe) ???

If you have already smoothed the model, how did it look prior to that?

Any modeling tips to share here Jim? :D I'd love to hear them!

Hi,

Leroy is a SubD creation. I really don't know how to use nurbs properly.
As some of you may know that I often switch between 3d apps, using the best features of each in my workflow.

The rendered images above were done in Maya and the character has been primarily modelled in Maya and will be rigged, textured and rendered in Maya.

The previous wire was captured in 'another' program as it shows more clearly the edge loops, etc... when smoothed (SubD).

Here is the wire as it looks in Maya before appling SubD.

As for modelling techniques. I don't know. I guess looking at other people's wireframes has helped me considerably over the last 6 months or so. I feel I'm no longer trying to re invent the wheel. I feel that I can 'justify' every poly in the model.

If, people think he is OK I might try and move onto some texturing, especially the tatooos.

HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!! as I suck big time in texturing and lighting.

Also, It would be lovely if anyone could translate the S.Stalhberg realistic skin tut (in tut section here at SM) for me as that is the look that I'm after.

thanks again

Hi,

Inspired somewhat by Gollum.

Here is an update of the 'skanky' crack addict. Stylized, and maybe more stoned looking.

Trying to get more character in him.

What do you think?????????

Hi,

First of all this model looks very good, much character!

I heard you say that you have a little trouble with the shading, in that case you sould go to www.daz.com, and buy the 'FreakyFranky' texuring workshop, it written by Bill Fleming and really help me on the way to improve the build up of character textures
