Here is a clip of my caveman model showing off some of its blend shapes (morphing expressions).

Caveman

Basically, this test shows that all of the input connections are working. The teeth are temporary as is the skin color and the eyes.

Now that the model is working, I'll start laying out the UVs in preparation for painting and displacement maps. The UVs will also be used to lay out the hair. Speaking of displacement maps; I've learned a cool technique to create dynamic displacements that change as the expression on the character's face changes. Things are going well with this model so, hopefully, I'll be able to wrap this up in a week or so...

If you want to see some more "behind the scenes" pictures of the caveman, check out my site.

Lol I love the end, where he like kisses the camera then smiles.

Here's a test rendering of my caveman.

I'm still working the color map and I haven't even started the bump or specular map. The hair is interesting to work with but it takes a lot of getting use to. I've got a long ways to go before I can create "styled" hair. More to come...

dude, this is great!
what do you do for a living?

I don't do CGI for a living if that's what you mean. I use to do special make-up effects but now I'm just a guy who is trying to learn 3D graphics. This stuff is really hard. I guess that explains why the top guys in the CGI industry have masters degrees from college. The cost of buying Maya is one thing but the cost of the books and DVDs is a lot too. I've been at it for 2 years and some of it is finally starting to sink in.
