Absctract sphere
Wasn't sure where to post this, but anyways. I want to know how to take a po ly sphere and extrude it out so it has spikes. Abstract type thing.
Thanks, Deviant Dreams |
1. Under the POLYGONS / TOOL OPTIONS menu, make sure you
UNCHECK "Keep new faces Together". 2. Then, select all of the faces you want to extrude, and extrude them outwards. 3. For a spiky look, before you deselect, simply scale the verts at the end of your main spike, and all of the others should follow along. ANOTHER WAY: 1. Make a spike as detailed as you like, press "Insert" to adjust and reposition the pivot to the bottom-center of the spike. 2. Do a search at Highend for a Melscript called: "scatterObject". 3. Install the script. 4. Select your spike, and shift-select a poly sphere, and run the script. 5. There will be options for randomly copying/instancing your spike on a poly sphere and/or a poly plane. Good luck!!! |
Thanks trying now

No prob:)
It takes a bit of trial and error, but you'll get it eventually:) |
still won't work :(

Sorry:)
I'm in front of Maya now so here's how to do that: 1. Go to: POLYGONS/TOOL OPTIONS and make sure that the following are OFF: -Keep new faces planar -Keep new faces together 2. Make your poly sphere. 3. Select all of the faces. 4. Go to Edit polygons/Extrude Face 5. Now, scale in ANY axis a little bit, then UNDO, and then the CENTER global scale cube will appear. 6. Scale that down a bit untill each extruded face becomes a small point. 7. Now, click on the little blue circle. 8. Now, grab the center scale cube handle again, and scale up all of your faces to as far out as you want. 9. Click the blue circle again. 10. Now grab the center scale cube hadle again, and drag to the left to make your extruded things into pointy spikes. 11. (optional) smooth:) Hope that helped:) |

Neat! I like the shape on the red and blue ones. Reminds me of dust particles in an electron microscope image.

i like those two sphere !!
how did u create the red or blue shader ?? |
If you look closely to all of the transform handles that appear when you do an "Extrude Face" command, there is a thin black line going out from the center, and it ends with a little blue circle:)
That's the key to this whole thing:) If you want, I can write a mel that will do this automaticly for you if you can give me a day or two:) I'm working on the VIP Explosions PT 2 right now, so I'm a little busy...sorry... Lemme know if this helped. |
yea sure. Thanks
Shader: The shader is a Anisotropic at near transparency with GI_Joe. :D |
