Office Ghouls

Well heres hoping I get a warm welcome here.
Been a member for years now and never posted
(shame on me)

My final project in uni is a film intitled Office Ghouls.

Its going to be about 2 min long and tell the story of Gemma a office worker working late one night and having a series of frighting events happening to her.

I have spent the last 4 months bangging out this new one. Its going to be a horror/comedy type thing based in a office. Here is the teaser poster ( I know the characters need some tweaking but you can see where I`m going with it can`t you).

Yer story as good as done just tweaking the storyboards as I go as I`m running out of time. Now added a webcam which will play a big part of the begining.

just watching "magic shopping arcade abenobashi" boxset I got last week for refanrce so anyone whos seen them will know what crazy antics I`m after for my movie.

This looks like a very interesting project - the office environment is looking very cool and your characters have a lot of...er...character  to them. The only thing that I am not sure about at the moment is that the two male characters are looking very similar, which may be intentional, but if not could be a bit confusing.

tweetytunes 31-03-2006 07:48 PM

They are twins, so they are surposed to look alike. To be fair the forth character came about due to an error in my story and to save time I gave my one guy a brother.

I`m hoping to lead the audiance to thinking thats its the one in the securty guard unform causeing the truble, but then you`ll see him looking dead (he`s not really as its a wind up) you there wondering who this persons going to be.

The second twin still needs alot of work. At the mo hes just lost the hat, got all his teeth and a different texture, but that image was only to made for a assament we had last week where I had to show everyone off.

All I have to say about him is

- look out for red christmas lights -

(hehehehehe you`ll see soon)

ah ha. Fair enough mate - that makes sense. I wondered if twins might be the reason. I will keep an eye out for the christmas lights.

arrrrrrrrr bloody rendering. :headbang:

sorry had to get that out of my system.

Having major problems with shadows, color and lighting. remove any of the above 3 and the other two work fine but put them togeather and poof major problems.
My shadow layer was taking up to 3 hours per frame to render, which is just not good enuff. Rostoons has been giving me some useful tip (and may I just say thank you to him right now) but I feel I have still lost alot of the smoothnes I got from the stills with no textures on it.

I just want it to look like this but in color

below is a 2 second clip that took me 2 days to layer up and render, but I`m still not happy with it and don`t know what to do. I like the way the desk and the monitor are looking but the rest is looking flat. Each frame is taking about 17 min which I can live with just I wanted it to look nicer. Any ideas anyone

clip

P.S just noticed I left the detail Layers of the mouse so forget about that.

well just got wih it and got 40 seconds of animation done and starting to think my movie is going to be longer than I thought but hay as long as I finnish it who cares

VIDEO LINK (DIVX)

here is a quick test video showing off some of the animation. Some layers on each shot still need rendering this was more of a test to see how well character was moving as well as the lighting test towards the end. Would say each shot about 85% completed.

any crites welcome at this point ....
7 weeks and counting arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Animation definately needs work. The movements are too stiff.

arran 13-04-2006 04:19 PM

I like it! It does seem a little stiff, but it looks like you have done a ton of work. Well done mate - you are already getting a scary vibe to your movie. This should pretty cool.

whaaaa these coments got me a little spooked but have been trying really hard to overcome that problem.

Any tips would be great right now.

here is another video playblast with a shot of gemma trying to open a door but it locked and then hears the door on the other side opening
(edited the moive file to have second half on it now)

I feel that she has alot more life in her in this shot heres hoping you`ll feel the same.

I may have a little free time to go back and tweak those shots but time is running out and need to get this all done first. Does not help that I`m out of savings and have had to go back to work to pay for stuff like food and rent, but spending every spare moment on this.

Lol, don't get me wrong. The overall modelling and setup of this project looks pretty darn good.

It's just that.... let's take your first video you posted for instance. At the end where the guy goes to knock on the glass, his whole arm moves as one up to the glass. Then only his wrist turns to knock on the glass.

If you're going to animate something, I'd recommend doing it yourself in real life first. Watch every part of your body that has to do with what you're animating.

Hopefully that might have helped.
