Little Island

Hey ppl. I haven't posted in a long time because I haven't had much time to do maya stuff. Now that I have some time finally I'm going to redo an old project that I think I could've done better on. This is where I am so far. No details yet and am playing with some GI settings to get a good scene color. I think the scene is too green though. Gonna mess around some more. C&C welcome.

yea, kinda looks like floating green cheese. yum.
and the waves are waaaay too big, unless your island is REALLY only 6 inches across...

what kind of color are you looking for?

Well, for the first pic I wanted sunlight, which went horribly wrong but the actual scene I want to be done at night. Heres a little tweaking done to the waves. It's a software render with no lights. Still trying to get a stormy thing working.

i would set the wave height much lower, this looks like there is a lot of wind, but no actual big wave.

A wave is build out of 3 layers,

1: The main wave, that can span out from 1 meter to 20 or more meters

2: then you have smaller breakers that you have now.

3: and then the ripples

Google some images about sea storms etc... and study how the look like, what do you see, do you see foam? do you see consistency, and so on.

Your night version looks to dark, add a moon light effect, so your scene is much brighter.

Cheers Aiko.
Yeah, it was a real problem getting the waves accurate and then I found out that the ocean shader can't be used for tidal waves, only moderately violent waves that don't have much power in them. So now with the due date getting closer, I'll have to go for a quiet scene. Here's what I got so far. Threw in a buoy into the scene. It'll be far from the trees anyway but here's a close up.

[Edit]: Oh man, put up a gif by mistake, so it's better now.

Thanks. Yep, I did some dynamics on the buoy, the rope and the smaller floaty things.

For the sky, I'm gonna create some clouds with fluids and try to get some rain on there. Could take a while though.

Here's a shot of a small cloud form. For some reason I can't duplicate fluids so I'll have to make more later.

Made a little change to the scene. Looks like I'm doing a day scene again. I thought it would be a better way to show details better. Still a bit of work to do.

Okay, so now I'm gonna stop messin around with textures and finish the scene. Started blocking out the beach house a little. I got the idea from the Kame House from the old Dragonball Z anime.

ya might wanna change up the randomness of your leaves for the palm tree... looking at the tree it looks fine, but in your shadows you have a few concentric circles that show up pretty prominently.

you could probably improve on this just by scaling some of the branches and then angling them differently.
