if i'm thinking of the right sculpture, i think this still needs quite a bit of work. the cheekbones look off and it just seems a little undefined in places.

your thinking of the wrong sculpture, its of the young julius ceaser busts not the old skinney one that every one thinks it is

see, its the first ever bust made of julius ceaser :) i thought it needed moderning plus the marble shader takes alot away from the model but i like the shader

yeah - it still looks off - the forehead is way too low - eyes are too high and the top lip is undefined. sorry. :)

well its always nice to hear someone slag off your work.

Funky Bunnies 14-01-2008 06:10 PM

don't take it personally, tadpole. There are always a lot of stuff you can fix on your work - especially with replications. Instead of dodging his crit saying he's 'thinking of the wrong sculpture' try taking another look and see if you can refine what he mentioned.

You haven't captured the likeness yet. Keep working :)

as far as the marble shader goes, I think you're quite right in that it detracts from the model. Loosen the specular highlight and bring the intensity down a bit and it'll look a bit more natural imo.

elephantinc 14-01-2008 06:18 PM

It just needs lots of wrinkles and things adding cause its rather smooth at the moment
but nice work
youve got allt hte proportions right

arran 14-01-2008 06:33 PM

didn't mean to slag off your work - i was just trying to point out what looked off to me. i think the model looks really good in places - but falls apart in others. just my opinion though. :)

Funky Bunnies 14-01-2008 07:02 PM

I disagree with elephantinc, actually. Wrinkles and minor details aren't particularly difficult to add. The main larger forms are what's throwing it off to me, but it's really tough to compare with these completely different angles.

elephantinc 14-01-2008 07:03 PM

yeah, if you show us a head on pic like the ref image then we can comment more accurately

Mayaniac 14-01-2008 07:14 PM

I don't honestly think he wants you to Crit his work!

He's posted it in Finished work, and he is quick to his Guns, when someone makes a comment that questions the models Accuracy, and/or completion.

You will probably find he doesn't want to work on this model anymore (as he's probably been going at it for awhile, or he has other projects to attend to) so he's probably not going to make any changes. Or put your advice to work.

I'm not trying to be offensive... just trying to point out the obvious.

@Tadpole. I actually think your model is good (Though it's not an accurate model of JC) ;)

elephantinc 14-01-2008 07:19 PM

kk fair enough
i do like it im just not to sure of its accuracy

Looks good.
could you post a wire frame and an untextured model?
