mental ray and subdivision surfaces
Hi folks
i'm an italian industrial designer and i'm moving to the power of mental ray in maya 5. I'm personally modelling new objects facing to poligons and subD. leaving behind my nurbs background in alias studio. i model just like a sculptor and i like this new trend: shaping "digital clay" the thing is that i start from poligon cube then i convert it in subD but when i have to render it, i mean rendering subD an error message comes out saying "Error:( Mayatomr.Geometry):polyToSubdShape1HistPoly:no material asssigned but it's not true since i asssigned a phong one where do i fail? since i believe in the power of the images and this renderer creates good pictures i'm asking you if you could solve my problem thanks in advance rocktogon |
maybe try deleting the construction history and then assigning the material to it (Unless you need the history). Make 100% sure you have the material on there by right cliking it and then selecting "Materials>> Material Attributes".
Filing that post some screen shots and I can take a look at it. Welcome to SM by the way. Alan |
dear alan
surfing on the net i discoverd this great and helpful clue it's not a problem of assigning a material it's mental ray itself that needs rules: from help files - "To prepare subdivision surfaces not directly supported (for example, where the base mesh does not contain only quads), you must bake the first level of subdivision surfaces to get quads everywhere. To get quads everywhere in a rejected subdivision surface Select Subdiv Surfaces > Collapse Hierarchy > . Set Number of levels to 1. Click Apply." it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope it could helpful for other people bye |
