compressing
 
hey

i want to compress a bunch of files so i can transfer them without too much hassel

i was usin winRAR to do this but i am gettin no compreesion it goes in as 54.6mb and is compressed to 54.6mb

have i got my wires crossed and this format is just to put file in one place or wat

ne suggestion

also what compressor do u use and what way do u use winRAR (process steps) do u take to compress a folder

I think the compression only works if the file can be compressed using the algorithm that the compressor uses, for example it can use run length comression on a text file but not so on a JPEG or a video file because or the information in the file.

I think that if your file is already compressed, i.e JPEG, MPEG etc, you wont really be able to compress it using te ZIP or RAR file.

however i done the same opp on another set of pics and it knocked off 5meg so im not quite sre what happened

go into winrar and change ur settings to high compression...you may have it set to normal or something...also, try using .rar or .ace files rather than .zip...they tend to compress more with those formats.

in winRAR i had it on normal and i was usin format .rar

i tried what u said and i knocked 0.33 meg off which is better than before but not that good

but thx for ur help
