Nem 14-12-2002 03:37 AM

not sure about other cards but id say the fire GL here, its a workstation specific card i believe
and i think the geforce ur referring to is the ti4600

Kurt 14-12-2002 05:39 AM

Ill be getting a fireGl soon

Nem 14-12-2002 01:58 PM

how much are they? what they like compared to a quadro 4?

tariqrf 14-12-2002 02:10 PM

between the cards... its no doubt that Fire GL's the winner..
the prices, nem,,,, the Quadro 4's gonna be more expensive than the Fire GL..

For maya, the ti4800 is a better bet *if* your willing to use the softquadro drivers(which effectivly turns the card into a Quadro 4 990).
If not then possibly the firegl, though its based on very old architecture ( the radeon 8500) and I've heard many bad things about ati's so called "workstation" drivers with maya on various forums and lists.
Personally I wouldnt trust em though thats just my opinion.

nem: the ti4800 is the new agp 8x card. the 4600 is 4x.

4800?? wow so much new stuff so quickly!!

is the 4800 the GF FX? cos i thought the agp8x card of nvidias was the FX

kal 15-12-2002 11:55 AM

nope. its just a GF4 clocked the same or higher as a ti4600 with agp 8X.

Nem 16-12-2002 02:32 PM

nice, only problem now is gettin a dual board which supports 8x!

TychoCelchuuu 16-12-2002 03:18 PM

I'm not sure about the price difference, but I know the GeForce will still work very well with Maya. If it's less, I say get it and use some Maya specific drivers.
