Weyu Jan/feb Contest
I am out a bit late i figure but I'm almost done so it should not be a problem. :) This is the first 3-D contest i participated in and I feel rather satisfied with the result so far. :)
I think I will make the part where the catfish breaks the water a little more "lively" Well the scene is more or less a fish that fights the waves, at first I wanted to make him fight a penguin(dont ask why :P) Thats why he got that vicious look, but I think the statue would be to big then. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h5...ollected-1.jpg |
Looks good.
But when did you start it? Cause evrything has to be made within the challenge timeline. Do you have WIP pics to show? |
I like it a lot! Very stylized, and I like it a lot because it looks like it has an oriental flair to it! KUTGW!!

Yeah I can show you some of my old wip pictures, the idea for this´fish was created in the december when the contest first launched but i didnt start with it before january.
The black things are my light setup, now I realize that I should've put the grid off but it will do fine. :) The first file was created 3rd January. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h5...pgallery-1.jpg Regarding oriental flair, I was inspired by this asian painting :) And what does KUTGW mean? :) http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h5.../wave-400h.jpg |
cool - I like it a lot!
There's still a bit of time left - I would keep adding to it. |
Yeah I dont see myself done with it just yet. :)
Some questions tho; 1, Does the eye have to be attached to the body (If so how do i attach them) 2, Should I make the inside of the mouth, and how should I make it so that the figure wont be messed up. :) And thanks alot for the positive comments. :attn: |
Ok, cool.
It looks good |
the eye mustn't be attached, but the whole body must be one piece. So you just have to combine the eye with the body and be sure that the whole body is watertight. :)
The same for the mouth. if there is a hole the mesh isn't watertight. edit: if you want to attach sth. you have to do this: 1. combine the eye and the body 2. select 2 vertexes which are going to be one vertex 3. go to mesh (or edit polygons in another maya version) then merge (or merge vertexes) that's it, good luck and have fun :D (it's my 100th post, haha) |
Ah thanks, forgot about combine.
I guess I will get started with creating the inside of the mouth then. And congratulations for your 100th post. :) |
Okey I created the inside of the mouth, do you think that will work or do I have to redo it?
I also created the underside of the figure but that isnt so spectacular so no image on that. :) http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h5...ishclosup2.jpg |
there doesn't seem to be much of a change from the first render you posted for the inside of the mouth (from what i can see)... what did you change?
|
In the first render and the wireframes the model didnt have an inside to the mouth it was open, so he's closed the mouth off (created the inside) as part of the rules state that it has to be a watertight mesh
|
Can you post a wireframe of the mouth?
I think you will have to work on it ;) |
Okey here is a lowres wire. Just a question tho, what is it that needs to be fixed? technical or aesthetic? :)
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h5.../wirefish2.jpg Next thing I need to fix is the eyes, did I just need to combine and see that it doesnt have any leaks or did I have to merge the vertexes? |
The inner mouth looks ok.
You don't have to merge the vertexes one the eyes, you just hav to be sure, that it is "watertight" |
