Light Flicker
Hi, Can anyone suggest ways of creating a flickering light effect? Im trying to create a small camping light but i guess an effect of a candle flicker would work. How would i go about this?
Thanks for any help Steve |
this one is really tricky to get through maya's UI. I suggest asking this to someone who can work a bit of MEL magic, I dont know MEL so I can't really help.
sorry Matt :alien: |
you should write an expression to control the intensity of the light. Setting it to a random number every few frames should do the job.

oh right good idea thanks!
So something like... LightShape1.intensity = rand(0.5,1.5); ?? what kind of light do you think would be best? i was thinking a point light, but it seems to create quite a harsh light and the ambient light lights up a bit too much of the area.... I would be greatful for any sugestions! Thanks for your help! Steve |
you should never really use ambient lights for lighting as they flatten out the scene by not casting shadows etc and thus applying even light everywhere (they suck ;)) put decay on your point light and it wont be so harsh. remember to compensate for the decay in the intensity value by pushing it up e.g. 5.
