Quadro/FireGL
hey, im lookin to buy a new gfx card with my new computer, heres what i can choose from:
quadro fx 1000 quadro4 900XGL FireGL X1 (128mb) FireGL Z1 im lookin for a card thats good in maya, but ALSO good in games, which out of the 4 works best for that combination? and which ones better for maya alone? will they fit in an asus a7n8x deluxe mboard? |
ok, a slightly easier question first
does the graphics card speed up rendering or improve render quality at all? |
Quote:
Harware rendered particles may get some boost on speed and quality but software renderer (the normal renderer) doesn't have anything to do with the gfx card. |
so basically it just speeds up your viewport?
ATi say: "Cinematic rendering and animation " how can they provide cinematic rendering without makin images look better? or is it just a marketing thing? |
sorry to break up your thread nem
but if you get more RAM put in your CPU will that speed up renders ? or let you render things that take a lot of memory ? |
If your scene needs more ram than you have, it will greatly slow it down. If you have more ram than the scene needs to render, it won't help a bit.

Hmm, actually Nvidia es getting out shortly the QuadroFX card (The same as GeforceFx) but enhanced for workstations and 3d animation.
I suppose it would work on games also. |
apparently the quadros show a lot of artifacts in games, but have great drivers for 3D, and the FireGL are the other way around? is this true?

youd probably be better off going for a high end gaming card with lots of ram. That way it should perform ok in maya and be perfect for games. Probably cheaper than a proper 3d/CAD card aswell.
however if your doing proffesional type stuffs, the proper gfx is obviously necessary. :D |
lol
i can only have a max of 1.5gb of ram when i originally wanted two :( but anyway, i wanted a professional card for maya to speed up viewport displays cos i really hate it when i have to do lots of playblasts cos it wont play at correct speed, to have to re-render stuff, so bring on the power :D |
